Hope you are feeling a bit better Claire. x yes i'm joining in just had a very hectic couple of weeks, need to chill a bit and do some reading so it's come at the right time. My list starts out as this...what i'll actually read will probably be very different (as it was last time, i'm not good at sticking with things!) A 'NEW' PONY STORY (PUBLISHED IN 2012/2013) Diary of a celebrity horse Trainer - {USA} Really not expecting much with this one but hey it was free and fufils the criteria as anything else half decent would be a re-read. AN OLD CLASSIC The Far Distant Oxus - If it counts and if it can be one i've never read previously? If not I'll do Prince Among ponies A FANTASY PONY STORY My only planned re-read The Black Loch AN ADULT HORSE STORY The Master of the hunt - which is a short story paranormal romance A PONY STORY PUBLISHED IN A COUNTRY OTHER THAN YOUR OWN The snow pony - Alison Lester - Australia NON FICTION Heroines on Horseback - Jane Badger OTHERS Moonlit - Jadie jones - Not sure how horsey this will be hence not popping it in as my fantasy choice. Highland pony trek - Pat Leitch - suddenly realised i've never read this one. Flying Changes - Lynn Hall (USA) Jill And prince The pony The Mystery pony - Primrose Cumming (sorry can't remmember Uk title off hand and i've got the American edition as you've probably figured)

Thanks for the list haffy and in colour too! Glad you are joining in and just in time for me to get you in alphabetical order on the web-page! Yes an old classic doesn't actually have to be one you've read before just an older traditional story. So Far Distant Oxus would be fine. Be interested in what you think of it as I thought it was deadly dull. The UK title for Mystery Pony is No Place for Ponies (BTW has your copy got a DW haffy as I'd love a pic of it some time)

Lol that doesn't sound good but it was also a freebie, so went for something i hadn't read before. No Dw i'm afraid, it's a pretty tired copy...i thought it was something rare when i bought it as didn't recognise the title...haha!

Well folks got the webpage up and running. You will be pleased to see the smiley faces are back, also the rosettes, etc will be awarded for a certain number of books read as we did last year. This year there is also a new smiley star which you can award to book you enjoyed the most at the end of the challenge. (I am debating whether to put in an icon for the worst book too, probably something tasteless like horse poop!) At the moment we will aim to finish it up by 1st September but if people need more time then that will be no problem. We'll see how it goes. Please can everyone check their lists and make sure I have got all the right books on them and there are no mistakes. Happy reading everyone - here is the link: summerreadingchallenge.ponymadbooklovers.co.uk/

Claire -- is Applegate a re-read or a new one for you? I have long been curious about that one.

I've just finished Horse from the Black Loch and I didn't enjoy it. So a big frowny smiley for this one. It started off alright and I thought maybe this time I would actually like a Pat Leitch book, but no, it all went pear shaped for me as soon as the fantasy horse appeared. Next book Joe and the Hidden Horse shoe......

Sharon Siamon's Runaway Dreams gets a smiley (though I am going to have to run a question by you guys about a basic premise of this particular book that made zero sense to me); World on a String gets a smiley.
Reading Mystery Returns and Ghost Stories of Ambrose Bierce right now. Both very short and with short chapters, so I can pick up either based on my mood!

Rally - Applegate is a new read for me. In fact they all are except for the 2 Pat Leitches. Not part of the challenge for me, but I think I will also check out those ghost stories yo have on your list as I do like ghost stories. Oh dear Rosie I guess its left to Rebel Pony to redeem Patricia Leitch in your eyes I'll update the smileys tonight

Lol haffy, I haven't started yet either so don't worry and as susan says the front runners sometimes run out of steam ;D Just wondering how people are choosing which ones to read - are you doing them in any order, picking ones you think you'll like best first or is it just pot luck?

I did Joe first because it looked so good (and was a paperback!), then just went for an ebook because of the portability. Have a few days off coming up and will probably tackle hardcovers then. Ah, the life of a commuter

I chose Horse from the Black Loch first as I wanted to get it out of the way. Thought I might not like it I'm doing Joe and the hidden horse shoe next as it's Claire's book and I'm posting it onto Fizz afterwards. After that it's just grab whatever one takes my fancy

Rosie, you must be the type of person who eats their greens first ;D I'm the opposite I'm starting with those I know I'll like - the Pat Leitches. Started Black Loch this morn but won't have time to read much today as its my mum's birthday and we are having a family day out and a meal.

Birthday wishes to your Mom, Claire!
Smiley for Ghost Stories of Ambrose Bierce. About halfway through Mystery Returns.
Our 14th Anniversary today! DH took off work. We were going to go to Colonial Downs this morning to watch the horses work, but decided we didn't want to get up quite that early! (We'd have to get our horses, dogs, cats, and cockatiel settled and then drive a little over an hour.) We'll either go to the track this afternoon for the race card, or maybe even do something really suburbanish and lowbrow, like going to see the new Lone Ranger film.

Congrats Rallycairn. Hope you had a great day. We had a fab time at a country house and a rare bird sanctuary (may add some pics if they have come out and anyone is interested) and then stuffed ourselves this evening. Mind I think I burned off all the calories tonight in a temper trying to put together my new garden furniture! ;D Thats a nice signed book trixie!

I’ve finished The One Dollar Horse. I thought it was ok - good and exciting in parts, a bit silly in other parts. I'll admit I was disappointed, because I expected it to be very good, but thought it was only good. I've no desire to read the sequels. I'll give it a straight face (neither smiley or sad) and a medium rating when I can find the link.
I'm going to read The Good Master next, because I've had it for years and if it's good, I'll probably buy the sequel.

Yes I'm sure we can squeeze another one in - the more the merrier! Just get your list posted as soon as you can. I may have to add you to the bottom of the web page (at least at first) instead of in alphabetical order as this is quicker. Tamzin - not sure if we had ever had a review thread for The One Dollar Horse. Feel free to start one anyone! Well I had almost decided to read that one on the strength of kunuma's comments about it, but now yours have put me off again Tamzin! I'll update the smilies now. I am about half way thru Black Loch and I still love it as much as I ever did so a happy smilie for this one for me.
