Well It's not snowing today hooray - dread to think what the temp was last night though (it was minus 15.5 last saturday morning at 7.45!) We finally dug my car out a little earlier and it was reading minus 7 when I started it up even though Sun has been up a while.
Still stuck at home though as the roads are shocking plus my main route to work (A57 Worksop) has collapsed apparantly and lorries have been stuck there a couple of days. The alternative routes (plus my journey up to the 57 even if was in use) , that don't involve 20 plus mile detours, are highly likely to be impassiable anyhows so hoping things improve over weekend...

This week hasn't been too bad, everything has been running nicely. Just cold, and although it has not been snowing, it hasn't been too bad. I went to Tesco's this week, and noticed that they had no frozen fish! They also were low on sandwiches and the same with the Co-Op today.
There has been some ice, but fortunately this week I have been able to try out my new snow/ice grippers, which have worked! The only thing is that yesterday I only recieved an email saying that my (cat food) parcel had been sent: yet on the tracking site it says that the number is invalid. So I am worried about it, so if they have not delivered it, one of my cats is going to run out of meat soon as I have only one box left.

Now this could only happen to me! Having crawled back from the stables deciding that trying to muck out stables with a slipped disc probably wasn't recommended therapy, I made the happy discovery that the freezer had packed up. So much for my 'clever' plan to do on line shopping and stock up, just wish it had packed in before I thought of that plan!! Talk about ice, ice everywhere but where I wanted it!!

Talk about ice, ice everywhere but where I wanted it!! Ouch at the freezer. Ice has been a problem though: earlier on this week I could not get the housebrick off my bin lid so had to open the lid with the housebrick still attached. This morning I had the opposite problem: could get the housebrick off, but the bin lid was firmly stuck on.

Kunuma re. your freezer, if its a fridge freezer it may be the same thing as happened to mine. This sounds idiotic but its true. If it is too cold in your house it could stop the freezer working. Mine packed in last year and when engineer came out he said it was cos it was in the very cold back porch/utility and it was because of the way they make the fridge freezers nowadays (dont ask for technical details something to do with thermostat) and they will stop working if it gets too cold. If this is the case you can turn the fridge up (colder) and it may start the freezer bit working. I'm not saying this is the reason it could just be your freezer has konked out, but as I know you have heating probs it could be. If its just a freezer on its own not sure if the same thing applies however. Last year I moved my fridge freezer into a warmer part of the house but its so cold this year cos of my heating probs the freezer started to pack in again so I turned up the fridge bit, trouble is its trial and error as if you turn the fridge up too far everything in there starts to freeze too! I had to strain the icebergs out of my milk this morning. And I dont think I have ever seen a frozen grape or courgette before this week! ;D Apparently the correct temp for a freezer is at least -18 so even at the moment it is not cold enough outside to store frozen food!

I've heard the same as Claire that if it's too cold freezers can pack up. And you're not kidding mysterarab. All the water troughs at RDA are frozen up even with footballs in them so a lovely job we had trying to cart water to fill them up again without spilling the lot! I did get to drive the tractor though which was fun!

It's melting here too, but boy is it slippery! It's raining on top of the icy pavements. Lethal!

Melting a little bit, still slippy and slushy. All the automatic water troughs are frozen so have cart big containers out into the fields (as well as haylage so they can eat) not to mention scraping and throwing salt down the road so we can turn all the horses out safely. This is just at work though, Buster is considerably easier, seeing as he isnt going out at all!

OMG Claire you are a genius!! It is a fridge freezer and I think that is exactly what has happened! The night before last it was so cold that the aerosols in the kitchen all burst - never occurred to me it would affect the freezer. The irony is that it is in the warmest room in the house as it is where the cat lives, and she has an infra red lamp on all night! 'Cos it was just an old freezer I got second hand I thought it had just given up, but the fridge part was still working - have turned it up and wait to see what happens!

I meant to ask earlier but seem to be rushing from crisis t crisis non stop at the moment! I rode a little Quarter horse mare once who had broken her navicular bone in the past - she was working in the riding stables when I rode her so she had got better. I remember she had tiny feet too!

Kunuma what will prob happen is that your freezer will start to work but everything in your fridge will freeze! So it depends which you want to work properly lol. Actually its probably safe to keep all your milk butter and cheese, etc in the coldest rooms of your house if its that cold so you may not really need the fridge. I've been googling it and the actual reason is because the manufacturers are stingy b*ggers who only put 1 thermostat in the fridge instead of having one in both. Theres loads of people in the same boat as you (including me) and its annoying that they dont make the things properly in the first place. What is amazing is that some of them stop working if the temp goes below 16F which is ridiculous in this country, as thats most of the time! I think mine and yours must be the sort that go off under 10. It is actually dangerous cos food can defrost and refrost again without people knowing about it which is potentially a health threat. But on a nicer note, yes mysteryarab, we would like a Buster report!

I rode a little Quarter horse mare once who had broken her navicular bone in the past - she was working in the riding stables when I rode her so she had got better. I remember she had tiny feet too! Well he didn't seem to be improving with the shoe they put on him, and they kept x-raying his hoof but still couldnt find anything! So having ruled out absess, corns and now they are saying its possibly not a broken pedal bone! I hope so. Well anyway they gave us some antibiotics incase its a infection, and hes finished one course (well... it kept freezing in the bottle so prehaps a bit less than a course) and he seems to be getting better. He looks fine walking in straight lines, little iffy when he turns a corner. As we now dont think its a fracture, I decided to turn him out because he was getting really stressed in the stable, anyway first day I tried that he spent about an hour galloping around bucking and rearing, but he looked pretty sound. As soon as my back was turned however, he pulled his fence down and let his neighbour in with him. Cheeky pony. So they had a nice gallop around together before someone separated them, but he seems alright to me, a lot happier being out. He's getting more antibiotics soon so hopefully he's on the mend! Thanks for asking

My parcel has not arrived, so one of my cats have run out of meat Blooming courier! On the other hand, I am in a lot of pain. I slipped on black ice outside Tesco's yesterday, which means that I have a very sore ankle, leg, knee, back, shoulder, neck and wrist. I also have a slightly sore head, as I fell quite heavily. I am bruised all along my back too

Oh dear garej, not good all round then. No yesterday was not a good day all round! Apart from falling on black ice (though it has to be said someone did come up and ask if I was all right), I got IDed (because I was buying a bottle of wine - and it's the first time I got IDed since that shop opened 3 years ago), and our art group's chairperson quit!

Hope you are feeling less sore today garej - I'd be flattered to be IDed cos doesn't that mean they think you are under 21? Absolutely no chance of it happening to me! It's thawed here today at last, and the ice is coming off the inside of the windows. I was trying to open them (as it was warmer outside than inside), and found that the ice had started to melt on the glass and then refrozen on the window sills, all my house plants were frozen to the sills! I was chipping half an inch of ice off the sills! This house is ridiculous!

Crikey.. You lot.. I feel lucky as I have heat and touchwood no icy incidents yet. My friend did break her wrist trying to break her fall on the ice. Night in hospital and a now plated wrist. (bad break) It is quite mild here today....

poor you Garej, hope you recover soon. It seems to be taking ages for parcels to arrive even tho the worst of the snow has been cleared for a few days. I'm waiting for a few things I ordered over a week ago. Thawing here in fact loads of revolting grey slush about. Not sure what its like back home as there was a helluva lot more snow there to melt. (I am staying at my parents at the mo until Christmas as was having probs with my heating) Unfortunately according to the long range forecast the cold and snow is due to return in a few days. Hope they are wrong.

Hope you are feeling less sore today garej - I'd be flattered to be IDed cos doesn't that mean they think you are under 21? Absolutely no chance of it happening to me! Yeah, and it is annoying, because I thought I got over it. I used to get IDed all the time when it was 18, then they brought out the "think 21!" which was annoying. But the last time I got IDed (in another shop) was 3 years ago. Luckily I had brought my passport, so out it went and I firmly pointed to where it said "1981" as year of birth. I am still feeling sore but my wrist is better - no it is not broken! I thought at first it was, but I can move it around (albeit with pain) alright, and no bones are in the wrong place! It is not hurting half as much today though - but I have had it for most of the day and all of last night in a support bandage which is helping tons. My back and shoulder seem to be the worst now. The only trouble is that I am supposed to be bowling which I am not looking forward to. Not only I have not been consulted about who I want to be in with, I have been shoved in a team with two people I have never met! I am already getting anxious about it as I get stressed about group situations in the first place, but been shoved with two strangers is far too much. So I already having mini panic attacks about it! If I was stuck with two people I knew (even if I hated them) then I would be ok or even consulted in the first place! So I am dreading it now, whereas before I wasn't. So I am hoping my back or wrist doesn't heal completely because then I have an excuse not to go! Seriously I am so annoyed that I am put with two strangers I am tempted not to go, even though it means I will lose just over £5 (which was the deposit). The meal is afterwards so some people are just going to the meal, so if I do that, then of course, I wont lose the whole deposit. But on the other hand, I will be so annoyed or so full of stress then I am tempted to forgo that (which is very unusual because I seldom refuse food) which means another £5 down the drain. But yes, I would rather lose just over a tenner than being stressed to hell! It's times like this I wish I had some valium!

poor you Garej, hope you recover soon. It seems to be taking ages for parcels to arrive even tho the worst of the snow has been cleared for a few days. Well I received my parcel.........yesterday. The thing is, because they were being slow and I was concerned about running out of cat food, I ordered on Sunday the same cat food (plus his biccies as I was feeding twice as much so they were getting low) off another site, which uses a different courier. That got posted off Monday, arrived Tuesday. So now I have two lots of meat (plus the new biccie bag, cat stuff disinfectant and a toy) so I am practically overrun with the stuff!! The only consolation I can think of, is that they were due to go up next month (Jan) due to the VAT increase, so at least I saved myself some money. The only thing is now that it is getting in the way a bit!! At least this time next week the cats are going off to the cattery so it can clutter up their space instead of mine, so I only have to put with it getting in the way for another week. The bus wasn't running this morning through our village (and still not running by the time I come back), but fortunately I decided to walk to the next village which the bus always passes that particular stop, even on the diverted route, so I was able to get into town (and the Cats Protection). This morning I could not get my lid open or move the house brick which weighs the bin lid down, and I still can't move the house brick, so I have to now open the bin lid with the house brick still firmly attached.

Just had more snow here - some last night after a rainy day and it was so frozen this morning I couldn't open the car door. Then another scattering throughout the day. Lovely and icy everywhere now. :-(

Wow - it is getting serious here now - in space of 2 hours we have gone from a light scattering to a whiteout - in some roads you can't work out where the pavement stops and the road begins - off to Suffolk tomorrow - I don't think so. Walked into town (and came back looking like a snowman) and people were getting stuck coming up all the hills and there were lots of accidents. Not as much as there has been further north - but a lot for Herts. It is lovely snow though - powdery and crunchy. At one point it was coming down in tiny little balls (not hail) of snow - never seen that before.
