Mine looks quite similar, though the roads are clearer, though not much traffic! However the steep hill is stopping the traffic I suspect. Buses are still not running - not sure if the postman is coming or not! I am expecting 2 parcels, but they aren't as urgent as the cat food though (one's a secret santa, the other is an ebay parcel). It's been snowing since I got up.
My parents although higher and flatter are ok, and the postman is coming, however the postbox outside their house has not been opened for over a week! I posted the remainder of my cards on Thursday, but fortunately I did it in the postbox located inside the main one in town, so it will take a lot for them not to go there (and they were fairly local - either my county or the next one - with the exception of 2 which were going to Buckinghamshire and Nottinghamshire).

We may have scraped through the last lot, but we got clobbered this time. Having crawled along through a couple of inches on the roads yesterday I hoped that was it, but no chance, I woke up during the night and knew at once it had snowed heavily, I couldn't hear any traffic!! Inches and inches all over everything, up to the tops of my boots in places! I can't get to the horses! Horrible stuff when you have animals that are not at home, I wouldn't mind so much if they were within walking distance. Even my house plants have all died of frost bite - and it takes a lot to kill spider plants.

I had a new oven supposed to be delivered today or I won't get any christmas dinner..lol Only arrived when I was out with the dogs.. Stupid chap.. After saying they wouldn't come for another hour.. Hope he can get back to me.. Dogs love it though.Short legs or not.. ;D

Thank Rosie. He got here at the second attempt.. But wrong colour....!!! Anyway I decided to put up with that as I may not get another chance if the forecasts are right. So I may get some dinner after all.. lol Got to hope supplies hold out now at our village shops as not sure it is wise to travel far at the moment..

Nightmare!! We had another foot of it last night - and though I live on a main road it didn't get touched till late afternoon. Having driven back yesterday from the horses on ungritted roads, and done a beautiful sideways 'passage' at one point, I chickened out today and haven't been out. I've run out of bird food too exmoorfan, tried microwaving rice for them but it just froze solid the minute I put it out. Daren't give them any of the dog or cat food as that might not last if I do. Just can't think what to do to help them, we don't have such things as village shops here or I would get them some bread at least.

I've been horrified by the snow scenes on tv. Gorgeous pictures Sarah. I hope everyone copes with looking after their pets and has enough food to last out the snowstorms. Is this a once in a hundred years event or can anyone remember something similar in the past? We have birds here that love thy dry cat and dog food. Once we had a flock of seagulls that reminded us of a scene from the birds. Our dogs and cat were hiding under beds when that went on. With all the weather problems, I hope everyone has a joyous Christmas...Cheers, Vera

I meant to say really lovely piccies too sarah
Kunuma I looked on line to see what else to give the birds and they eat quite a varied diet when hungry. As you say you can't run out of pet food or thats an option, to soak some dry dog or cat food... I managed to get some seeded brown bread which I am scraping some fat on and they love this. Also pasta chopped up and any breakfast cereals., porridge oats.. Apples, Bananas raisins.Well most fruits really.. I found some sunflower seeds hidden away .Oh and peanut butter..
A friend who is a keen bird feeder is sparing me a fat ball and some seeds some time today so I hope they will be ok now..
How is everyone else today.?

I'm lucky at the mo as where i am staying it doesnt usually get too cold or snowy and its a big city. Would be a different thing if I was back home! We have a little bit but its not too bad, roads are a bit icy but again not too bad. Kunuma I would send you some bird food but the post is so slow at th moment I dread to think when it would arrive I havent been able to get back home to replenish the bird food at mine but my neighbour does feed them so hopefully they should be OK. Anyway just to make everyone feel better about the snow, if you think we've had it bad, did anyone see the programme about winter in Yellowstone Park. Snow up to 50 foot deep and temps -66!!! Amazing how all the wildlife manages to survive! Here is the iplayer link if you want to watch it. Some lovely wolves on there. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00jc6p6/Yellowstone_Winter/

The postie arrived today!! So I'm now stuffing myself with a choccy horse ;D Thanks Claire. lol me too - I didn't realise they still made them as use to have them as a kid! Thanks Claire Hope you are all coping with the snow - we are still evading it at the min but the deep freeze is getting beyond belief now....we have to go out and pour boiling water on pipes to get bath to drain evertime it's used now , the horses automatic supply has now frozen up too so we are lugging them water constantly (which bleedin freezes within minutes of them getting it ) The leccy fencing posts are welded in the ground and they are really miffed to not be able to strip graze at all... Our little birdies are fairing a little better as we picked up two 20kg sacks of bird feed when we picked up some nag feed other day so that will keep them going a while but they actually cost us more in hard feed than my boys do as they get through a sack at an alarming rate!!

Glad you enjoyed your choccy horsies. ;D At least the post seems to be working from your end, most of the things I ordered a while back for xmas have not arrived. Getting a bit worried as only 3 more postal days left! The post in this city is terrible, its taking 7-10 days for a letter or card to get from one side of the city to the other! Quicker to deliver everything by hand - even if you have to walk! In fact your stuff got there quicker than cards I'd sent my friends who live here at the same time. I caught the end of it where the guy is chopping up HUGE lumps of snow. -66 I grumble at -5!! Rosie, I thought that bloke at the end was totally bonkers! ;D

He kind of reminded me of that film "The Shining" where Jack Nicholson lives in a hotel snowed in in the middle of nowhere and goes bonkers!

Bit more snow here today but still not so bad. Its usually pretty scarce on the North East coast, what they had earlier this month was freakish. Just off now to have a nose at Richmonshire's weather, to see what i am missing!

Sorry to all who will be stuck at home on Christmas day but on the plus side no irritating to in-laws to endure I'll open the chat room all day on Christmas in case anyone who is snow-bound and a bit bored wants to chat. A couple of years ago when I was by myself on Christmas due to being ill it was nice to come on here and talk to people.

Oh Kunuma.. Really feel for you....You have had a tough time... Yes I wish for a hunky guy to clear my snow.. lol Only do the bits to help me get around the garden and garage.. Ice is a problem .Lots of people having falls and breaking bones this way.. Claire I may be online at xmas.. I usually stay at home because I won't leave the dogs for long.. I have been invited to a friends for Dinner but in hindsight may not do it as we have had fireworks already last night so sure to get some when I'm not here as the dinner will be later..

We had a good dollop of snow Tues night/Wednesday morning, went to the Cats Protection as the buses were running their diverted route. Main roads were ok where they gritted, but the side streets were awful for cars. OK if you were on foot but took it steady, though.
Had a shock: usually we have 2 other volunteers plus 2 other members of staff: it was only me, the deputy manager and one staff member. One got stuck and the snow was bad where she was. Her husband work 2 1/2 days a week near me: good job he couldn't get in either because there was no way (unless you had a 4x4) he could get there!
Am at my parents now, the roads aren't too bad. Took the cats to the cattery earlier on today: the pens weren't very warm for them so I hope they turn the heating up! The trouble is that they are both housecats, so they aren't used to the cold at all.

WTF Fireworks!!! What is the matter with people!! Who are these anti social uncaring morons who don't understand the meaning of Peace at Christmas! The sudden fashion for doing them on New Years Eve is bad enough, but over Christmas, please...............isn't the wildlife having a bad enough time as it is, not to mention the people who are struggling just to cope! Perhaps these so and so's could spend their firework money on food parcels for elderly people who have been trapped for days now OK rant over.............and breathe...................

lol Kunuma.. Thanks for your card by the way.. It did arrive.. Thanks too claire .. Well so far we haven't had many fireworks so I may have been ok to go..Just a few at teatime... But it could happen yet... Although I live in a village there is a built up area over the back of where I live and quite a few seem to think fireworks are for anytime.. Last year Some went off at dinner time..!! But I went for a lovely walk this morning with my friend and her 3 dogs in the woods for nearly 2hrs so that was really nice ..Not to slippy in there.... Had a nice dinner with the dogs and some mulled wine.. Sorry kunuma .. I know you are starving..Bless you..

I dont think there are any laws but then again surely there are some regulations regarding loud noises, esepcially at night. For heavens sake you cant even beep your car horn! We had a bloomin digger thing drilling all day today across the way, looks like someone landscaping their garden or something. Some people dont seem to think that folk may want to have peace on their holidays Trouble is even with rules and laws its so hard to enforce them
