"...still collect Britains." You mean Britains still exists?! I bought just about everything they made back in the 60s and haven't seen them since the store I patronized went out of business! Is there a website or anything where I can see their current line?

I dont think they are still producing them - could be wrong tho - I assumed kunuma meant buying the old ones on ebay....?

Is there a website or anything where I can see their current line? They are still being produced with the Britains name - but they are nowadays awful mass produced ugly things made in Hong Kong. The days of the collectable Britains ended IMHO, when they stopped being made in Britain! Yes, I meant I collect the old ones from the 60's and 70's, plus I have some metal ones that predate the plastic ones. Also Timpo and Cherilea - and I hate to admit I am such an anorak, but I think I have at least two of every horse/cow/sheep/dog and chicken that they made!! If I had a camera and a nearby PO I'd sell my spares, but since I don't - I have an entire filing cabinet full of them!

Hello all - I found this website through the Horse and Hound forum - so I joined straightaway! As per my user name I ride skewbalds , and have been very lucky to breed, train ,show and compete coloureds. With OH I also farm, loving cattle. We live in North Yorks, within sight of a famous Richard 3rd castle - so am very interested in history too. I m a huge fan of Monica Edwards and still read them , especially as they have been re published by Girls Gone By. When younger I read the Pullein Thompson sisters books , Pat Smythe s 4 J s and many others. What would be anyones recommendations for me to read ?

Welcome Skewbaldrider. I'm a fan of coloureds and History too The Jill books by Ruby ferguson and the Jinny books by Patricia Leitch are very popular but I expect you've come across those already. K.M. Peytons books are good, as are Caroline Akrills and Primrose Cumming too.

I might try the Primrose Cumming books - there are plenty on ebay- all raound £10 each. may search local charity shops for cheaper ones.... have read Flambards books - last one , written after the [wonderful] TV series, was a let down ,I thought. I do love well illustrated books - Tunnicliffe and Anne Bullen are my favourites. Similar modern books dont exist, as far as I can see.

Hi skewbaldrider and welcome! As you can see from my avatar I love skews too. I actually live pretty near you, beside another famous old castle in the area! I also love history and I like reading historical fiction as well as horsy books. Like Rosie, I'd also recommend K M Peyton, Caroline Akrill and Primrose Cumming. Plus there's loads more ideas for good books to read on the Top 10s page of the website where we all voted for our favourite books in a wide range of categories.

Thanks for the welcome! i m going to look at the TOP 10s for ideas. However, as Claire is near me Ill perhaps not find many books in charity shops etc, as she will have beaten me to it! Are there others from Yorks here? Could we have meetings like a Book Club?

(Too many bloomin southerners lol) I'm really excited that at last someone has joined who lives nearby! The chap who runs the Monica Edwards website also lives near to us - we could have a 3 person Monica book club!

There's not many in Wales either - I think I am the only one. At least one pony book author lives in Wales (Caroline Akrill (Burt)).
I think if I want to talk Welsh, then there's only myself!

Hi again- not sure if any of you remember me, though I see a few familar faces still here. I used to be on here about 3/4 years ago, then vanished - I lost my horse of a lifetime in a horrific, freak field accident and although I stayed involved with them because me and Mum have too many projects around, I lost all pleasure in reading about people who had their pride and joy around still.
Now, that was over two years ago and I'm just starting to edge back into the horse world for joy as well as for work. And I'm thinking Kindles and the like could mean there are some new stories out there to read, so it seems like a good time to try.
Anyway, to the old faces, hello again and to the newbies, Hello, nice to meet you!

Hi snowfilly welcome back. So sorry to hear about your loss. It does take time to get over such things. But I'm glad you are back with us now and yes there are lots of books around for the kindle - even free ones so check out the read for free thread in the website news section where we post links to the freebies from time to time.

Hello everyone, I found the Pony mad book lovers forum when I was searching the internet for information on K M Peyton, she was my favourite author when I was younger.... I wanted to read Fly-by-Night again and was so pleased to see she had written many more books. I have recently started riding again after twenty years and part loan a beautiful Irish sports horse called Jessica. I also have two dogs and three cats. I am from the South West. I love the Jinny series, Caroline Akrill, the P-T sisters and the Follyfoot series... I found the Follyfoot omnibus in a charity shop... I read them years ago and it was like meeting old friends again although I cried when I read about poor Rusty just like I did years ago! I have learnt so much from the website already and am impatiently waiting for The Sweet Running Filly and Jinny no's 5 and 6 to arrive... I think I am going to have to buy the Catnip editions, the covers are gorgeous!

Hi chestnutgold - like the name! Sorry I wasn't around to welcome you yesterday. Internet was down. Great to have another Jinny fan on here. The Catnip editions are excellent and have not been updated or had the text tampered with in any way and yes the covers are lovely - the owner of the cover model is a member of the forum! We'd all love to see pics of your various animals some time too.

Evening y'all! Finally signed up, after several months of lurking Brief history: grew up on Tyneside, spent pre-teen-years hanging round local riding stables and reading pony books - the Jill titles and anything by Gillian Baxter were all good! When older, part-owned a TB/New Forest mare for a while when I was lucky enough to actually live at the edge of the New Forest so had some wonderful riding then; eventually she had to be sold on to a family who were able to develop her amazing talent for jumping. Live on the south coast now and don't ride, but have started to rediscover all the books, mostly thanks to this forum just finished Little White Horse, it was every bit as good as I remembered from.....OMG HOW many years ago??!

Hi Jude and welcome! Glad you have at last decided to convert from lurker to fully fledged member! I grew up quite near where you did on Wearside, but like you I moved out of the area. I hope you have many happy hours rediscovering the books.

Hello, I am littledog and I live in a small town near Seattle, Washington, USA. I have been horse mad all my life - I'm American, born in Detroit, but in my youth I lived near Adelaide South Australia, where I was lucky enough to learn riding from a British Army officer, in the early 70's. Quite a few years ago, I'm 52 now, but could it be that some of you older Australians know of Nanto Equestrian Centre, in Mylor South Australia, and Mr. and Mrs.Willoughby? These days I am still having fun with low- level Eventing, and my horse Komet is an Arab-Trakehner cross who is willing to jump anything, but we both consider it more fun when we go for wildernesss trail rides. I still love the books I read as child - my favorite authors are K M Peyton and Marguerite Henry.
