Hi everyone!
My name is Christina, but you're welcome to call me just about anything. I was so thrilled to find this forum and see that it's still active! So many communities I've found lately look great and then I realize they've been dead for years. Anyway, I live in Alabama USA with two horses and three dogs and I'm rekindling my interest in pony books. As a kid all I really read were Marguerite Henry and The Saddle Club and then whatever odd gems I could find at our inadequate local library. Now I'm starting to write some pony books myself and thought I ought to get better acquainted with the genre. I wish I had known more of these authors when I was younger, but ah well, better late than never!

Hi Christina....welcome aboard! I'm in the US too, in Massachusetts....I can tell you that hanging around this group you'll find tons of "new" old authors....my local library actually did have a number of horse books, both US and British, but since I've been collecting I've found that what they had was only the tip of a very large iceberg!
By the way, I know what you mean about dead forums/threads....can't tell you how many times I've seen one and thought "wow! they're talking about books/authors I love! think I'll join in!" only to notice that the last post is dated 5 years back. Sigh........such a let down!

Hi Christina, Welcome to our forum. Yes we are well and truly alive and kicking and hope to be for a long time to come. I always like to see more American members joining. Just as susan has found lots of British books she hadn't heard of, we Brits have also found a wealth of American gems recommended to us by the USA members.

I think we had someone from France, also maybe NZ? Can't remember cos not everyone comes on very often. I like having such a mix, the internet is great for getting people from all over the world together.

Even in the UK we have a mix of people from the nations, we have English, Welsh and Scottish people (I think I am the only Welsh person here though). The only people we dont have represented is Northern Ireland.

Good point garej, it just shows that pony books are pretty universal. Just need some Irish people now!

Thanks for the welcome! Shame on me for not posting again until now. I have been reading through the old threads and adding to my (now enormous) list of pony books to find and read. It's nice to see such a variety of nationalities present! The only downside is being introduced to wonderful books that are next to impossible to find in your own country and have to be shipped overseas.

LOL, know what you mean, sometimes the postage is more than the book! Take heart though, a number of British books had US printings, albeit often in small numbers. The good thing is that they often aren't so well known here, so when they do turn up, they can be very inexpensive.

I tend to try and find joblots of American books which works out a lot cheaper. But unfortunately I dont see them very often. Re. what susan says about the US printings of British books, I am trying to add all those US printings to the webpages of British authors on my website with any name changes. Come to think of it, it may be useful to have a check-list of all the UK books with USA printings and vice versa, tho not sure how much work would be involved. Maybe we could do a thread on it...?

Hi all! I'm from Canada and with a group of authors and horse book lovers, run a bookstall at our country's largest horse shows.
Walter Farley's Black Stallion series is my personal favourite.
Currently reading "Finding the Good" by Tanya Paterson.

Hi! I just now joined (after posting as a Guest to the thread about "Pony Books for Boys." I live in Pennsylvania, USA, though I was born in New York City and spent the biggest chunk of my life in northern New Jersey. My love of equines grew naturally out of being a Baby Boomer (I just turned 62) and literally cutting my teeth on TV Westerns--"Rin Tin Tin," "The Lone Ranger," "Fury," etc. (I also love cats; can't have a horse in my apartment, but I do share it with a tuxedo tomkitty named Simon.) I'm a voracious reader of both adult and juvenile books, and I write too, though so far I've only been published (to generally good response) in the amateur press. I'm also something of a book nut--at last count I owned over 6000--and I know a fair amount about older authors and titles (I worked 10 years in a used-book store and am at work on a massive bibliography of kids' titles). I consider myself a spiritual Montanan, having yearned to visit the Big Sky Country ever since I discovered Charles M. Russell and Stan Lynde. Besides cats, horses, and all subjects relating to the Old West, my interests include movies (mostly older), music (country, folk, New Age, world, classic rock, soundtrack and Broadway), astrology and other New Age subjects, wild nature, landscape art, domestic architecture and historic decoration and costume, and probably about 20 other things that I'm forgetting in the general upset of still being in the process of moving (VERY long involved story). If someone were to offer me a horse, I'd be torn between a buckskin and an overo pinto; I love Arabians and have more than a passing fondness for Missouri fox-trotters. (Appaloosas are nice too!)

If I can get a camera phone without hocking my eye teeth I'll certainly send a pic of Simon. Like all tuxies he seems to have an incredible mass of whiskers!
My mother used to say my books would push us out of house and home, to which I always replied, "Hadn't you rather I was hooked on books than drugs?" She never *did* come up with a good comeback to that.
Apart from the books, CDs (and old vinyl), and movies, I also collect Schleich, Papo, and Safari Ltd. figures, and I'd collect Breyer if I had the room (and the money).

I must say I am tempted to start collecting Schleich horses, but have to wait until I have finished doing the house up so I have somewhere to put them. Are there many model horse collectors on here? May start a thread/section if people are interested.

Just bought myself a Schleich guinea pig - couldn't afford the horse, but do love the horses and have some. Collect them, used to collect Beswick, and still collect Britains.
