Now that is one heck of a castle - I can visualize the 'knights in shining armour on their white chargers' already! That last pic made me feel quite funny - I'm not good at heights!! Going to have to google it to find out it's history. Now who would you all want to be to live in the age of castles?? ???Claire would of course be Rapunzel (I'm just jealous 'cos my hair breaks off when it gets really long, and I just finished up with wisps at the end!) I have aspirations to be Morgana La Fay, but would probably finish up being the scullery maid who has to clean the dungeons!

Whilst looking for castle pics I remembered I had this photo of Farley Mount which is a monument to a horse.

Well you know wht happens to drudges in fairytales - they turn into Cinderella and marry a handsome prince. You just need a pumpkin and a fairy godmother now kunuma! I like that monument to the horse rosie, there is something similar near here about a horse that leapt over a 200 foot cliff whilst out hunting but was sadly killed, tho the rider survived amazingly. If I ever walk out that way I'll take a pic.

That's interesting claire. I wonder how many horse monuments there are out there? And I will put some castle pics on next time.

Rosie we will end up with a 'horse monument spotters' thread if we aren't careful! ;D
Actually managed to combine horse spotters and old building spotters pics today as we have been out to visit another castle nearby: Middleham. And as the village is also the local racehorse training centre got a few horsy pics in there too. Might download them later after I've been to the pub. If not, soon. Its not as well preserved as Bolton Castle but still pretty good.

Not a moat, but a very pretty lake. It's in Wiltshire. I thought the one looking out from the top might make Kunuma go a bit funny

;D Just bought a book on all the castles in Britain, I'm planning on scanning the photos and telling you all I have been out and about a lot recently!! Must admit that Yorkshire seems to have more than it's fair share of the most impressive ones, we seem to mostly go in for stone circles down here, obviously the Yorkshire builders went for the highrise look, while here they preferred the bungalow type!! ;D

Yes we do have an awful lot of castles here, and I've been to most of them! Went to another one the other day but had a bit of a camera malfunction. My pal forgot camera so I brought mine but unfortunately forgot the memory card! And the ones we took on the mobile didnt come out Pity cos its quite an impressive castle. Never mind will take some next time I'm around there. Probably the best castle I have visited tho was not up here and that was Warwick Castle. If you live nearby its worth a visit. Also liked Dunster Castle in Somerset. If you can remember kunuma Dunster was re-named Munster in a pony book! ;D

Books? ;D Yep I got a few, but my word some were expensive and those stayed in the shop I got a 1st edition HB of Joyce Stranger Breed of giants, and a tatty HB copy of primrose cummings silver eagle carries on (but lovely illustrations), and HB wish for a pony by monica edwards. And here is one of the bookshops, quite a nice building.

That looks an interesting building garej. What is it?
BTW does anyone mind if we move this out of the members only section, as I dont think there is anything too personal in it?

That looks an interesting building garej. What is it? It was originally built by the miners during 1924-26, who saved up their money in order to build this place. They [the miners] funded the running costs by docking some money from their wages slips each week from 1926 until it closed in 1977. It was used for cinema, theatre, concert hall , games rooms, a public library and multi function rooms. These days it is run mainly as a theatre, but also a concert venue (if anyone has heard of the Fron Male Voice Choir, they have been there a couple of times), conference centre and exhibition space. For example about a month ago there was a meeting but it had to be cancelled, and the caterers gave out the food to anyone who came off the street. Several weddings have been performed there too. About 18 months ago they refurbished the village library (about a 1 min and a half walk) and they moved that into there temporarily when the work was going on. It's a Grade 2* listed building, so it is as it was originally in the mid 1920s. There is also a clock with a very loud bell that strikes every 15 mins too. Claire, I dont mind if this moves.

Ok will move it as this section is mainly for personal stuff, and I think this thread will be better served in the general section. But don't include pics of yourself on the thread unless you feel comfortable doing so.
