Cloud Horse by Jill Pinkwater is about Icelandic horses. Icelandic horses are referred always as horses even though they're pony sized.

Nice - had forgotten about The Heavenly Carthorse.
I think Krista Ruepp wrote some books with Iceland ponies in as well (definitely need to get some boxes out and have a rummage).
I am stuck on I - so if anyone wants to start us off with J - please go ahead

Interesting links sarah. I do agree on using our native breeds. I remember visiting a rare breeds centre a couple of years back and being totally shocked at the tiny numbers left of some of our native breeds of horses and ponies (and also farm animals).
My K is Knabstrupper (and I admit I had to look up the spelling of it lol)
