Not a Christmas quiz - was not feeling very inspired but a horse/pony breeds A to Z.
Starting at A, name a breed, let's see how many we can get for each letter. Photos of more obscure breeds welcome (feel free to use Google for the harder letters - you will be surprised at how many different breeds there are out there). :-)
Just for fun, name a pony book character of that breed and the book that they were in (if you can)!

Can we save Brabant for when we are finished with breeds beginning with A (probably didn't explain very well - let's think of as many breeds as possible beginning with A, then move on to breeds beginning with B, etc etc)
I will do ARAB - Melka the Arab in the Melka books by Joan Penney

Assateague Pony - I'm not quite sure if this is the same breed / variation of the Chincoteague Pony. If it is, then Misty and stormy from the Marguerite Henry books.

Suspect there are lots more obscure breeds beginning with c (in fact just googled and there really are) - let's move on to 'D' though.
Dartmoor Dinah the Dartmoor pony - Allen Seaby
Suspect there are other books with Dartmoors in - wonder how many we can think of?

Ta for the info about the Conestoga breed - I only know about it from that book!
Yep I'm sure there are quite a few Dartmoors in pony books, especially UK ones. Off the top of my head I can think of the wandy books by Allen Chaffee, Land of Ponies, etc by M. M. Oliver and Martin Rides the Moor.
I wonder if there are any in American pony books? Can't think of any off-hand - maybe one of our overseas readers know?
Oh..nearly forgot my D - Don (aka Russian Don) - can't think of a book they appear in - maybe one of the books set in Russia...? This quiz is very educational sarah!

Wait until we get to the end of the alphabet - there are so many breeds out there that I have never heard of. Actually - thinking about breeds, this is interesting: www.discoverthehorse.com/Sometimes the videos pop up on my FB page. So D for Dales - I feel like I have read a book with a Dales pony in but can't remember what it was (or may well be remembering wrong)
