As most of you may have read in an earlier thread my old cat Rosie has a large ulcerated tumour and several smaller ones on her tummy. The big one has got to a fairly unmanageable stage, and some of the others are also getting quite big, so I have decided to get the operation to remove them done next week. Hope I am doing the right thing and that I don't bottle it at the last moment! Please everyone send their healing thoughts or prayers to us. (I need them too as I am an emotional wreck at the moment!)

Big hug from me too, Claire, and a small, ginger one for poor Rosie. I'll be thinking good thoughts....what day is the op scheduled for?

Lots of healing thoughts for Rosie! Claire, there is every chance this will go better than you think -- animals really handle surgery so much better than us weak humans! I know she's old but think how much more comfortable she'll be without the tumors. Keep us updated.

Thanks everyone The op is scheduled for next Thursday. I have been putting it off for as long as possible as she is about 15 and a half and a very wee girl, but its really got to the stage where it has to come off soon. She is actually ultra healthy and fit apart from all the lumps on her poor little tum. There is a slight possibility they may not operate as they are doing a chest x ray beforehand just to check if she has any tumours in there, in which case she wouldn't have long anyway so it wouldn't be worth operating. I dont think thats the case tho as she seems far too healthy.

Best wishes to you and Rosie. Best to get rid of these nasty things while she is healthy: with older animals they can use a lighter anaesthesia which is much safer too.

Hope all is well for you. Jade had her cancer op at an age when they didn't really recommend going under unless vital, she suffered no ill affects whatsoever and went on to have several more x-rays etc in the following years. if they are fit and well they seem to cope better than expected, I think they have to cover their backs and tell you the worst just incase. xx

Thanks haffy. Yeah my dad's cat also just had an op to remove some of her teeth and she's only 2 or 3 years younger, she was fine. I'm just a born worrier. I'll be the happiest person in the world if it all goes well!

Thanks for everyone's kind thoughts. Rosie is back home after the op! She's still quite poorly and uncomfortable as they removed quite a few tumours and its a pretty big wound. She has eaten some food tho! Just keeping everything crossed now she makes a quick and full recovery.

I'm glad it's behind you both! Good that she's eating, always a positive sign, and needed to recuperate.
Will continue keeping the good thoughts coming!

Thanks! I did need to resort to a stiff brandy at one point this afternoon! She seems a lot worse for wear than other animals I've had before after surgery but she is a very nervous cat so I think its been a bit of a trauma and she must be very sore.

She's a bit brighter this morning but she has still got a lot of muscle tremors and twitches. Also she hates the collar to stop her getting at stitches, even tho its the comfy collar which is like an inflatable donut and not the cone collars which are more uncomfortable. And she's a total nervous wreck - I dread to think how I'll get her in the carrier box for the post op check on Monday! Still eating well tho!

The eating is a good sign, anyway. Sorry she had such a rough time of it. Hope she continues to feel better and better.

The first few days after an op are always rough - that's usually when I wonder if it was such a good idea, then they start to get better and you know it was!

Pets- they just live to worry the pants off you. My cat's behaving funny- he's usually really affectionate with me and he's now the opposite. I'm wondering if he's in pain so I'll get him to the vet next week I think- he's due for vaccination. Dog limps and keeps her weight off her back leg- too much walking upright and spinning around after her own tail. Star...well, you know...the usual. Glad your puss is home with you Claire.

The first few days after an op are always rough - that's usually when I wonder if it was such a good idea Too true - you think the worry will be over when they come round OK fro the op but its only just beginning. Had a bit of a scare yesterday. The poor mite went in her litter tray and got some poo stuck to her fluffy bum hair. She then proceeded to drag her bottom along the carpet to get rid of it. I was terrified she had pulled out her stitches. Thankfully she hadnt (wouldnt have liked to explain that one to the vet!) altho I did have a lot of poo to clean up on the carpet and on her! Life is just bizarre with animals! She's a lot better today. She even had her first purr this morning. And her appetite is amazing! I think she is still remembering being starved for 14 hours before the op! Hope your mog is OK cally.

Well she had her post op check and the stitches are fine, altho she has picked up a bit of an eye infection. She's getting very lively and restless now - she's not happy having to be confined to one room for another week til the stitches come out!

Well I spoke too soon the little tinker has somehow managed to get to some of the stitches even with her e collar on and started them bleeding. Off to the vets today again to get them checked out. More grey hairs to add to the growing collection caused by animal related stress!

Still not as bad as my older cat, Finn, whose tail got caught in a screen door! Took him to a stupid vet, who bandaged him up and told us to bring him back the next day to check him again. It was OBVIOUS he'd require a partial amputation, which is what a different vet said (and did) the next day. Overnight he'd managed to get his bandage off and run around the house spraying blood everywhere- nasty. Good luck with Rosie, Claire, and tell her from me to stop being such a cat and behave.

Will tell her cally but I doubt she'll listen! You know what they are like.... I have a different e-collar - one of those horrid plastic cones - I may have to put that one on when I am not able to keep an eye on her all the time. She'll be overjoyed...not!
