Great news, Claire. When my old cat, who had a tumour in her jaw, we bought a special (and very expensive) tinned cat food from the vet that had extra 'stuff' in it- vitamins and so on I expect- so it was a complete therapeutic food and very soft. Can't recall the name, and you may not have it in England, but it may be worth asking the vet. Kitten food is squishier too, but I'll ask Phil tomorrow if he remembers the brand name- I don't handle meat so he may recall he brand at least.

We got that special stuff from the vet - Rosie wouldn't touch it! She's eating pretty well now. Finally getting her weaned back onto cat food after a diet of roast chicken and beef! She's getting half chicken half cat food now. One of her 'holes' now has a big scab on it, the other is taking longer to heal. Got a new e-collar for her which is more comfortable for her to sleep in. Poor cat has been wearing the bloomin things for 6 weeks now!

Thanks for asking Rosie. She's doing really well. The wounds are just about healed now, just one tiny little scab left. She's even got her e-collar off at last! Its been a long horrible ordeal but she is a tough cookie. A few more days and I think it will be all healed up! Such a relief, only about 3 weeks or so ago I thought I was going to lose her.

Yes, I hope Claire's cat is doing well. The two lady cats here, Elspeth (black) and Morag (tabby), are very old now, they arrived in 1997 and are definitely showing some signs of age. Our neighbours recently got a ginger female called Rosie, though sofar I've only had a brief glimpse of her.

Hi folks, not good news with Rosie. The gingivitis/sore mouth she had after the op has flared up again. She got a steroid injection last week and it seemed to help for a while but its worse again. She has lost a bit of weight and is finding it hard to eat and is in a lot of discomfort. I have some tablets for her but they haven't done the trick yet. Vet says she really needs to get her teeth done which means another anesthetic. I am not really prepared to go thru that again. So its not looking good for her. Its so frustrating after all she has been thru to be defeated by bad teeth!

It's very kind of you and Rosie to buy your vets a new car each! Are they wanting to take some teeth out? After I had my wisdom tooth extracted the private dentist i finished up at to repair the damage gave me a tube of this wonder stuff to rub on - I've usually got really bad bleeding gums and after using this for a week it stopped! Then when the stuff ran out it came straight back! Yes. the dentist did want to scrape them or whatever, but since that cost £100 I declined!!Needless to say can't remember what the stuff was called but did think I'd try it on the animals if they needed it in the future!

Thanks folks. Have been feeding her by hand with that wafer thin turkey slice stuff and also primula cream cheese with prawns - all she'll eat at the mo! I wouldn't mind a tube of that wonder stuff kunuma.
The question is how far do you keep going trying to cure all these things and putting the poor thing thru more stress each time and on the other hand when do you decide enough is enough? I want to make the right decision for both of us. I already really regret going in for the last op.
Just hoping that the teeth might settle down again like they did before for a couple of months at least.

So sorry to hear of this, Claire. I know how hard anesthetic is and it certainly is a risk.
Is it possible that a dental would be a lot less trauma for her after the operation itself were over than the tumor surgeries were -- at least no wounds/incisions to heal, no E-collar to have to wear afterward, and so on. After a day or two of soreness her mouth might feel a lot better??? But it's tough to think about even one more time of putting them under anesthesia, I know, and she's been through so much. We're all thinking of you both.

Thanks for the words of support Rally. I do realise it would be a less traumatic experience (tho not sure if they may need to take teeth out too) than the other ops but it would be 3 lots of anesthetic in 10 months which seems a lot for an old cat to cope with. I did say to myself after the previous op that would be the last time I put her thru anything like that. I just dont really know what to do for the best.

Had to hit google but I found it - it's called Corsodyl Dental gel and I found the stuff on Amazon for half what the dentist charged me!! If it works on my teeth it'll work on anything!

Thanks kunuma I'll look into that if she gets a little better. Still having trouble eating, anti-inflammatory pills not working so I am gonna ring vet in morn and see if they'll give her a steroid injection which seemed to do the trick before. She's eaten quite a lot of primula spready cheese today - not sure how much nutritional value there is in that tho!

Hi friends. Well things not looking too good. She had the injection yesterday, initially showed an improvement but now is barely eating again and just wants to sleep. I think its getting to the end of the line with her. Haven't totally ruled out getting her teeth done but I probably won't put her thru any more also I think in the poorly state she is in at the moment the anesthetic and the stress of the procedure might be too much for her. Just want to say thanks for everyones support through the last few months and ups and downs. Its sometimes heartbreaking to love animals.

I am sorry you have been through all this, and Rosie too. Sometimes it is hard to know what is best for our beloved pets but we can only do what we think is best.

Back from vets and managed to get to see the decent one this time. She's told me that the op on the mouth is really a non-starter with Rosies age and state of health at the mo so I am relieved to not have to make the decision whether to do it or not. Tho my instinct was against it anyhow, at least now the whole thing is out of my hands. She's had a much stronger steroid, etc, and just waiting to see if this can do the trick. If not then I am prepared to say goodbye to her rather than put her thru any more. Gawd its been a long ordeal!

Thanks Rally, she is brave and its amazing what she has been thru, but unless a miracle occurs I think we're near the end. The 'last chance' longer acting/stronger steroid she got on Thursday gave her an initial boost and she had a great day yesterday - pain free and eating lots, but today she's going back downhill. Altho she seems fairly bright in herself and seems to want food as soon as I offer her any she just turns away. If the steroid doesn't kick in in the next couple of days there is nothing else to try.
