Our much loved rat died this afternoon just after the kids got home from school. It's raining so we'll be having a funeral later on.
I also had the vet out to Star today on a routine check up and it cost TWICE as much as last time, supposedly due to blood test for liver function (there's a rise in horses being poisened after eating Paterson's Curse- also called Salvation Jane). So with the cat's tail and the horse's teeth, our vet has made over $1300 in the last 4 days, AND there's another visit for the cat for de bandaging, immunusation and immunisation for the dog to come next week.
And $90 for the physio to make my back hurt tomorrow.

So sorry to hear about Slimey. I'm sure he had a great life with you tho. I love pet rats, its a shame they have such a bad press as they are so friendly and intelligent compared to other rodents. Sorry to hear about your vets bills too. Thats a lot of money to stump out!

Thanks, Guys. Claire, that is the big problem with rats- they are soo lovely; I really didn't think I would get attached to them at all but we all did. Slimey was particularly friendly and inquisitive as well as damn cute. The last few weeks of his life when we realised he was declining, he would just love to cuddle up with me when I watched telly- Upstairs Downstairs and Jeeves & Wooster were his favourites, and, of course, show jumping when it was on. We buried him next to his pal Sugarcube who dies a few months ago, all covered with pink and white roses and Heartsease. I'm getting weepy again now so I'm signing off.

Oh dear I'm getting a lump in my throat thinking of him cuddling up to you A big virtual hug from me x I would really like a pet rat, but not sure how Rosie would react. Not to mention my best friend who is terrified of rats and mice! How did your cat get on with him?

Cat and Rat did NOT get to get together! Finny is young & playful and a bit of a mouser so we kept a door between them at all times. They can and do get on ok and often play together I've heard, but we didn't want to risk it. Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone xoxoxoxo.
