We have had this done down here now, last summer from the looks of it. You are OK if you live down a track, they obviously are not allowed to trespass and take photos - but heaven help you if you live next to a road! I had no idea it was so detailed, you can see peoples' pets, horses in fields, people's cars and even what is inside them, all in their gardens even people in cars going down roads! I put in a few post codes of places I used to live last night, and was stunned to see how detailed the pics were. I am going to horrify one friend by telling her I can see her dogs in her kennels in the garden and even inside her car which is on here property, the only thing they do is blur the car numbers. It's not so much an invasion of privacy, as a complete removal of the whole concept of privacy - must be a burglar's favourite site!!

We have had this done down here now, last summer from the looks of it. You are OK if you live down a track, they obviously are not allowed to trespass and take photos - but heaven help you if you live next to a road! I tried it yesterday and because my flat looks onto a car park, they have got close. Like you mine was done last summer (as half the windows around me were open) and also on a weekend. Unfortunately they have gotten close to me, so much in fact you can tell what colour my curtains are! You can see my flat in much more detail (though they have blocked out the street name). My parents have also been done, you can see theirs in slightly less detail, but however my mum's car is shown up in detail. Google have blurred out the number plate but not too successfully as you can work it out. The house name plate is also very clear, though again Google have blurred out the actual name. You can also see in great detail the cows which are grazing at the side of the house. They have not uploaded the back of the house because for some reason google have not shown the lane which runs alongside it. My uncle (who lives on a farm) is shown in his yard driving a tractor, plus his vehicles are clearly shown (though they have blurred out the number plates).

You are right its a total invasion of privacy. Hopefully mine was done before I moved in as it was empty for much of last summer. I'm a bit scared to look! What is the reasoning behind it??? I mean the original google maps had some purpose but this just seems like an extension of the peeping tom society we seem to be living in now.

I've just decided to have a look at my house. Mmmm, luckily my car has it's number plate blanked out properly and you can't see into my garden as I have a very tall hedge around it thank god. The only point to it I can see is so people can be nosey!! I wonder if anyone was caught out sun bathing nude in their garden

Finally plucked up the courage to look. It was done after I moved in as my car is in the drive and the hedge has been cut! But you can't really see anything in detail, thank heavens. Luckily I do my nude sun bathing in the back garden not the front! ;D

Wow just had a look and it's freaky...in a bad way! I can't work out when ours was done, it's summer and I was clearly on holiday as can make out car up drive but fortunatly our high hedges obscure a bit of the view and I think it's my present car but not 100% sure. Must be a weekday as Oh's van is missing
Can also see my boys clear as day, and also a couple of friends (and one of their dogs!)
My mums faired a bit better as said above their house is well up a private shared driveway so you only get a few views up to it off lane and the zoom is not so prying...can see the horses otherside of lane though and their friends stable guard dog a bit further down lane.

Well we had a look at my parents fields, and you cant see anything beyond the gate which is good. It was taken on a Thursday because the bin bags are at the end of everyone's drive (no wheelie bins around where my parents live and everyone has to put all the bin bags at the roadside).

Agghh! Dont mention google street maps to me. Kunuma and I just wasted about an hour of our lives trying to find each others respective houses last night. It might be great for burglars to suss out the territory but if you actually want to USE it for a legit purpose its bloomin hopeless. You can't even send a link to your house. (Or maybe you can but I havent worked out how to yet!) Hmm just found this easter egg here.....
