OK so tell me if I'm being a complete nerd here ;D but does anyone fancy starting up a reading circle? ie, every month or so we all pick a book to read (one that we all have a copy of or can send a spare copy to anyone who hasn't) and then after giving everyone a couple of weeks to read it, we all discuss it. In this way we can talk about books when the plot and everything is still fresh in our minds. I dont know about you lot but I seem to forget everything I read nowadays after a few days!
Anyway let me know if anyone is interested and we can work out the best way to do it.

Sounds fun.....I'd love to at least try, though if I can't find a copy of the book choice, I'd have to bow out for that particular one.
BTW, of course you're being a nerd.....hello! everyone on this forum is a pony book collector....that would pretty much be the definition of nerd (though as the one who is buying these books from multiple continents, I think I'd win the "biggest nerd" contest) :-)

Sounds like a good idea - pony books or books in general?

Totally agree with Susan too ;D and don't worry Susan...a large proporation of my collection are bought from Australia/NZ as they are generally so much cheaper over there even with shipping costs! I bought one a while back that started life in a library in Notts...went to OZ and then is almost home again to where it started life!

Glad you are interested, also glad I am not the only nerd. ;D Reminds me of a (non-pony) blog I read a while back where the blogger was talking disparagingly about "pony book nerds" gave me a bit of a giggle as in an earlier blog she had been displaying pictures of knitting patterns and discussing them. The words 'pot' 'kettle' and 'black' come to mind!
Actually think 'pony book nerd' has a bit of a ring to it. Beats train spotting or being a 'knitting nerd' anyway.
But back to the main subject! I was thinking mainly pony books as we all have them, but maybe once in a while a non-pony one. I'm sure we could find some books we all have copies of.
If we pick one book each month and give ourselves 2-3 weeks to read them, then I can start a thread for the particular book we can all reply to when we have time. Maybe we can all give them ratings too. It will be nice to hear different opinions. Also I think you get more out of reading a book in this way as you think about it more. I know when I do the reviews of the books I pick up on lots of stuff I have previously missed.
Not sure how we would choose a book. Maybe a short list and then people could vote which one they want/have. Any suggestions welcome!

BTW we should only knit hardbacks, as paperbacks unravel if you drop a stitch.

Well, I hate to interupt all this knitting natter but for anyone who actually wants to read the books rather than knit, crotchet, cross-stitch or macrame them ;D let me know any suggestions for a book to start off with. Maybe one of CPT's as I'm sure we all have most of hers.

Maybe one of CPT's as I'm sure we all have most of hers. I actually have all the PT pony fictional books, so if it is a P-T book I can help there!! I have yet to read all of them, however I will do so one day because of my blog. I probably wont join in because at the moment, I have to concentrate on Josephine in order to do my blog (as I like to do one author at the time), but if you do decide to do other authors, then subject to me having the book I will join in later.

Yes, like the sound of that, havent read it for a while either. Could do the first in the series (Strange Riders) as I think most people will have that. Also its short! It will be a shame if garej cant join in tho. Anyone who does not have a copy of this book, or have any other suggestions/preferances note them here pleez

Can do for the Black Pony Inn series....I've got all six.
For a future read, might I (rather wickedly) suggest a Vian Smith title? Grin...I've got them all, and you lot SHOULD!!! It's just criminal that he isn't more widely read in his own country!! Perhaps a group read would give everyone a kick start (no pun, or bad riding technique, intended :-).

Somewhere I have got Come Down the Mountain - I think. There is a non fiction one I would really like people's opinion on I will need to look for that too - might have to send it round everyone if no one else has it!

Where would we all get Vian Smith from? I haven't seen one for 37 years. I'm up for the reading circle (after I've handed in my PGCE in May and got OFSTED out of the way at work),,,,but I don't think I have as many books as some of you. I did have some Black Pony Inn ones but I keep having clear outs.

Re. Vian Smith, you get them from America! Or occaisionally I sell one on my shop. Just had Green Heart and sold it straight away! Funnily enough, just been talking about the subject of Vian Smith and how he is so hard to get in his own country on my blog at ponymadbooklovers.blogspot.com/ if anyone is interested

Vian Smith would also be a good one, as long as it's one I've got that is, as it will make me read them as the covers of mine are not very inspiring!
