Hi exmoorfan, my aunt recently had this as she works in a hospital and it was compulsory. She felt slightly ill the next day but the symptoms soon passed. Supposedly its as safe as the normal flu vaccine but may have side effects in some people, but I am no expert so its down to the individual to choose. Personally I wouldnt have one, tho am having a normal flu one, but I know they are recommneded for people in certain 'at risk' groups who may be more effected by swine flu. You could ask your doc whether he/she thinks its needed for you or not.

good luck deciding - my mum works in healthcare and refused the jab because she is healthy but I dont know much about the jab apart from it's not a live vaccine

exmoorfan, Here's a link to the US CDC's question and answer page for the vaccination: www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/public/vaccination_qa_pub.htmAs Claire said, if you're in an at risk group, it could be a good idea....unlike the regular seasonal flu, which hits the elderly the worst, Swine Flu has had far more young people with serious cases.

One of the kids in my class had it. His arm was a bit sore and he got a slight temperature the next day but apart from that was fine.

Hi All, Thanks for your replies..And for the link susanb.. I have asthma..Not badly but need inhalers hence why I was offered it..I have the ordinary flu vaccs every october but this one worried me because of all the media saying people were refusing due to the preservatives in it. Anyway I was in a bit of a panic yesterday as still undecieded but luckily my own Doctor was helping out with the vaccs and was able to reasure me. He said some people got a sore arm or temp the next day. And in the night my arm was sore when I went to lay on it. But I am still alive this morning.. Hopefully it will continue. So I would say if you get offered it take it. Apparently even if you had the virus early on in the year you still may not be protected as its quite a clever one.

Glad you were OK with it exmoorfan x. Sounds like it was a good idea as you have asthma.

Go for it! To cut a long and unpleasent story short, I've spent the past four days flat on my back in bed with swine flu having caught it from my little brother. Today was the first time in however many hours I actually eat something 2 squares of chocolate, and I've lost nearly a stone in weight (bad, I was pretty skinny anyway) My BF had the vaccine and had a sore arm for about 3 hours, which I rubbed better. He so had the better of that deal

Poor you snowfilly. Typical man I bet he made more fuss about his arm than you did with the swine flu lol Sounds like you had a pretty bad bout of it as its supposed to be fairly mild in most healthy people.

Only just seen this thread; I had mine a week ago & I felt fine afterwards, my arm was a bit sore, but not as bad as with the regular flu vaccine. Have you had it done?

Hi all, Sorry very much for you snowfilly. Most of my friends who have had this now have reported a sore arm. One had a cold type symptom. It seems that is all unless you are already harbouring some virus.. So if you have any reaction at all to flu in a big way i'd say have the Vacc. Depends if you have other problems I think.? Good luck everyone. ;D
