I'd be really interested in talking to anyone who is interested in writing I have written a couple, not 'horsey' per se but horses tend to feature prominently in most of my stories, as do most animals! Anyone else?x

I used to write a lot, mainly short stories but I even wrote 2 novels in my youth! Not published tho I tried unsuccessfully to get my short stories published so I sort of gave it up. I write the odd story now and again for my own amusement. I am more into non-fic writing at the mo, toying with with idea of writing a book about pony books one day! Trixiepony - drawing and writing - you must be very artistic!

Like Claire I've written a few short pony stories for my own amusement, they certainly wouldn't get published!

I love writing stories, I just hate the thought of anyone reading them! Sort of defeats the purpose really I know, ::)but I have often wondered if any published writers started off like that! ;D

What a lot of closet writers we have on here ;D I think published authors are a bit thicker skinned than us unpublished lot - thats prob the difference between being published and not in a lot of cases. Ah, gone are the days when anyone could write a pony book and get it published Now you have to be a topless model I must admit I have a naughty habit of doing silly parodies of pony books, as all who have read my Jill by Jordan parody will know

Ooh found it! Just did a search for Jordan. Amazingly how often she's popped up on our merry little forum ;D
Anyway, after I first found out she had been writing pony books, this is how I imagined her doing a Jill story.....
Jill and Her Ponies by Ruby Ferguson Jordan
Anne and I were trotting our ponies Rapide and George along the bridlepath when I suddenly remembered what I had been meaning to say to her. "Have you nicked my wonder bra again Anne?" I asked, "Captain Cholly Sawcutt's coming round tonight and I wanted to give him an eyeful!" Anne shook her head and made a loud clicking sound with the large wad of gum she was chewing. "I ain't seen it Jill but I dont blame you wanting to look good for the Captain, he's well fit. Mebbe you should get a boob job." Yes, I pondered, maybe Anne was right. We could have another bring and buy sale to raise the money! Then I noticed she was pulling to a halt. "What's the matter Anne, has George gone lame?" "No its this bloody thong," she answered, rummaging around in the seat of her jods, "it doesnt half go up your arse when you trot!"

The publishing company sounds good Claire, I'm not much off a writer, but maybe I can be the company illustrator. Its a fun though anyway.

Trixiepony I love your picture it's really good. I think if I was going to write a story I would have to do a "jordan" and get someone else to write it because although I love the idea of writing one and have a good imagination, I dont think my writing is good enough and it wouldn't come out right!

zoe I'm the same I don't think my writing is good enough, but luckly I can draw. I think may be we should each write our stories we don't have to publish them, the best can go in the book.

Um, I write loads - it's kind of 'it would be a part time job if I made money at it -' but NEVER about horses. Don't know why. I can't ever get them right, or describe what it's like to go for a canter, or have one call to you, or even describe what they look like in ways that do them justice. I think I love them to much to describe them - same way as I can't write love poems to my OH. That's my exscuse, anyway. I think a joint e-book or something would be great fun! And trixie, I think your pallie is fantastic! He looks like my lad

Thats interesting snowfilly. I think horse stories are quite hard to write as the scope is quite small really. What sort of stories do you write? Have you had anything published?

I mainly write fantasy, Claire. The odd unicorn does sneak in As they do. I've had a couple of poems and articles published, and one novel which comes out soon, (self published) but I used to do a lot of sports journalism at one time - that got published alright! No-one else would watch my team play, let alone write about it. There's not really much scope for the traditional pony story nowdays, is there? I think KMP's the only person still writing them in the UK. As for short stories, like the ones in the annuals, I can't imagine anyone wanting them (except for us, of course)

Well done on getting published and writing a novel! I have thought of self publishing before, in fact I have even toyed with the idea of starting my own publishing company. You are so right about the lack of traditional pony stories now, sadly it seems that there is not much market for them and many of the authors who still want to write them have had to go down the self publishing route (Victoria Eveleigh for example). KMP does manage it but she is already a hugely successful author and even her latest pony books have been less than traditional.
I am still not sure whether this is due to the publishers or the fact that children do not want to read trad pony books any more.

I'm extremely lucky to have a book going to be published in the coming Spring (I hope!) It's only a little book with walks for children but I was in the right place at the right time when I phoned the publisher asking if they wanted someone to write a walking book. I do think there is a certain amount of luck with publishers. I also write walking articles for a magazine and again I was lucky that they didn't have anyone already writing walking articles for them when I sent them an article. I did a writing course a couple of years ago and that helped enormously with ideas on how to get published etc. Having said that, I find writing very hard going! I'm definately not a natural at it

Wow what a lot of talent we have! Trixiepony I love the drawing and Rosie I'm thinking walks for children might be the only ones I stand a chance at doing! I may watch Wainwright's Walks none stop, but I'd never be able to do them Where are your walks based?

They are all in Hampshire Kumuma. And include lots of references to play areas and places to fly kites and where to have picnics. They are all easy walks which suited me when doing the research as I'd have struggled if they'd been Wainwright type walks!

Yes just what I was going to say kunuma. A talented bunch! I'm interested in hearing about the walks too, just getting back into it after being ill for a couple years and unable to. I used to walk for miles in my youth and I've got loads of books of the things. Yours sound interesting rosie. Its nice to get people out and about with their kids. So many people seem to have forgotten what their legs are for nowadays!

The difficulty I had was asking parents if I could take photographs of them and their kids enjoying their walks. These days that's a dodgy area. Luckily most were very obliging and helpful when I explained what I was doing, but I still felt uncomfortable asking complete strangers "can I take a pictures of your children" like I was a pervert or something.
