Hi all just been watching a programme on bbc iplayer which features my home turf. Swaledale in Yorkshire. It also has a little bit about the town where I live, Richmond. Its about a long distance walk (the coast to coast walk) which passes through Richmond. I walk a little bit of it quite often. There's also a bit about Reeth which was the place Ruby Ferguson was born. Looking forward to next weeks episode as it is supposed to have a lot more about Richmond in it. If anyone is interested the link to the prog is: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00k36fg/Wainwright_Walks_Coast_to_Coast_Swaledale_Uncovered/

Theres a bit more about Richmond on this week's episode: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00k9c1m/b00k9bz7/Wainwright_Walks_Coast_to_Coast_Mowbray_and_the_Moors/Its weird seeing the shops and things I go pass every day on the telly. If you watch it and see a cat near the start, I see that cat all the time. It lives in the garden shop with its brother and is very friendly and outgoing. Not surprised it managed to get itself on TV Theres also a bit about the North York Moors which are another lovely national park not far from me, quite near York.

I visited Yorkshire last year and love the area. I went to see Bronte country and to visit the station and surrounding areas where the railway children was filmed.
I enjoyed that wainwrights walks series.

I saw the cat!! Richmond looked rather nice, it seemed to be surrounded by moors and now I see why you talked about the castle - very impressive, most of the ones I have seen have been ruins! What was the second castle that they showed after she started walking? I missed what they said it was called, (hiccupy downloading) it had a big walled square behind it. I loved the Wainwright walks too, can't believe I knew so little about 'up North' before I saw them! I was hoping she would cover the whole country, I'd love to see some Welsh walks, but apparently the next ones she is doing are in Africa. That's no good, there are loads of programmes about that - I want to see some more of this country!

Theres only one castle. But there is a keep which is preserved and also a ruined bit (which I can see out my loo window lol) so maybe that was the bit you mean. It does have a big grassy courtyward with a wall round it. I didnt know about that obelisk thing in the churchyard of the neighbouring village which was supposed to be in honour of a 169 year old man! I might have a little cycle to see it or maybe I'll even walk there and follow the coast to coast! The same girl did 2 other series about the Lake District not far from here (and where the coast to coast walk starts) I have got one on disc and can do you a copy if you like kunuma.

I really fancy doing one of those long distance walks the only problem is I can only walk short distances...a slight handicap ;D Well if I do that bit from Richmond to Bolton on Swale I'll get my friend to take a pic of me doing it! I dont have to tell anyone I only did a tiny bit of the walk. Actually I do a bit of it every day when I go to the post office as my street is part of it!

I went to your area a few years ago and we stopped for a few hours at a village called Muker. It was beautiful, I loved the stone barns, the little bridges, If I won the lottery i would like a Tea Shop there. I wish i was energetic enough to walk along some of those footpaths and see those fantastic views.

Ooh Muker is gorgeous Beswickcollector, that is further up 'my' dale, the most beautiful dale in Yorkshire (IMHO!) Did you visit the next village up (Keld) which is where all the waterfalls are?

I did not go there, I will remember that, Keld. It is well worth a visit everyone if you get a chance. Got 4 numbers up on the lottery last week but not enough!

Well it was the last episode the other day: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00kfc8c/b00kfc7g/hd/Wainwright_Walks_Coast_to_Coast_The_End_of_the_Road/Altho its the North York Moors I still count it as my 'stamping ground' as I have been there loads of times. Not by foot tho! I love Robin Hoods Bay where the walk ended. For those of you in Devon its a little like Clovelly, very steep pictureque little village leading down to a harbour, but its not quite as touristy! Just been talking to my friend and we are going to do the bit of the walk from Richmond to Bolton-on-Swale tomorrow (weather permitting) I'll try and get a pic of me doing it

I managed it! Was knackered at the end. Passed a load of horses on the route. And some donkeys I will put some pics up when I can scrounge a card reader off someone. I think the horses will be more pleasing to the eye than moi tho ;D
