Hi all, just a quickie before I log off til tonight. Have found a JB book on the net called Rustlers in the New Forest. It is apparantly a pony book acc to booksellers blurb. But I have only seen it listed as a non-pony book before. Anyone read it/heard of it and know whether it is a pony book or not? Sounds remarkably like Pony Forest Adventure but different publishing dates.

Rustlers in the New Forest is not a pony book.
I think it is a dog book, but I am definitely sure it is not a pony book.

It is a funny little book (or at least my copy is) but def a pony one. It is part of the far and wide series and is only 5 chapters long (just over 60 pages in total). It is not bound as abook, rather as a pamphlet/leaflet with staples and a paper cover, this may be why it is so scarce as I would imagine not many have survived the test of time? It is about Bob, who is on a horse drawn caravan holiday in the New Forest with the twins Pam and pete. No parents of course! They become friendly with Mr Dawson, who patrols the forest, and help rescue a yearling from a bog. Later he and his dam re-appear and as the yearling is rounded up the children become aware of the rustlers. The mare helps them follow the van and they let the ponies loose but the thieves get away. Bob devises a plan and they capture the thieves but not the ring leader. However he is spotted at the local pony fair and all ends well with an extra little happy ending to boot. It is not too dissimiliar to Pony Forest Adventure and Jackie's pony patrol really. What I really liked was this quiz at the end of the book...it reminded me of those that use to appear in some reading books books at school! I wonder if it was designed for this market?

Thanks for that haffyfan, and for clarifying it is a pony book.
I used to think that it "Trot Home Sally" was a pony book, it's another I need to amend my list about J M Berrisford's books.
I think it is probably meant for schools - the quiz is usually there to test that people have been reading, and not pretending to read!! Either that or it was for a competition, but I doubt it, as there would have been entry details.

Haffyfan thankyou that is absolutely brilliant! I have learnt so much in this forum! The trouble is keep finding new books which I then have to go out and buy!
I am adding this one to my website. Is it OK if I use your picture?
This book does sound like Pony Forest Adv and Jackie's Pony Patrol, Judith does like her rustlers and horse thieves doesnt she?

Oh forgot to mention I think you are right saying its a school book as we used to have these sort of books at school with questions at the back. (yes I am ancient!) Well not quite as ancient as this cos our school did have very old books! ;D
