The thead Did you ever have a crush, has got me thinking which character did you most want to be.
I wanted to be Janet in Janet must ride, she had wonderful employers and got her dream ride and dream job, why did that never happen to me, also wanted to be Jill what a lovely life she had.

Well when we use to play 'horses' I was always Nettie from the woodbury books...Tristram was so perfect. Did anyone else build jumps and cross country course to do on foot and do rising trot while peddling up-hill with brakes on. Tried to attach reins (okay string) to steer but fell off lol

OMG you two thought I was the only one who did this. My favourite game was to be an eventer. If we went for walks in country with parents when children I used to jump over all the logs and things and pretend I was on cross country course. Also used to rope my brother into the game. Sometimes when on a walk now I have a little jump when no-one is looking! ;D
Also we used to have a jumping course in my garden which all the horsy kids used to jump over. We even had a gymkhana on foot with rosettes and everything. My parents lawn was worn to nothing.
Also had another horsy game in my dads car. Would put a belt or scarf round seat in front and pretend they were reins and pretend we were in a horse race. Kept shouting go faster to my dad while my poor mother was white knuckles at the speed!

Oh there were so many I wanted to be! I wanted to be Ruth cos she had Peter. I wanted to be Jinny cos I wanted to live in the Scottish Highlands and ride an Arab. And I really really wanted to join the West Barsetshire Pony Club. (I think I would even have settled for being June Creswell if it was the only way I could have joined!) I loved the books so much I felt all the characters were all my friends. And I sooo wanted to go on the Pony Club Camp. I still read them now to cheer me up when I'm down.
Oh there are probably loads more I wanted to be. I'm trying to get back into pony book mode after ogling all those men!

God I find myself doing this when I'm a passenger in car too (don't do public transport), I try not to when driving though! Thought I was mad but maybe not after all.
I also look for bridleways too, i'll never ride most of them but always look for them regardless and make mental notes of areas with lots that could be explored at some point.
