I am finally admitting defeat as I can't see the computer monitor without binoculars any more! Now a friend suggested either to go out and get a life (too much like effort!) or get a bigger screen!! ;D My present monitor is just one of those old ones, like a little TV! I decided I would have to search around for a bigger one, and discovered that new ones go up to 23 inches BUT, this is my question, for contrast ratio, is the bigger number better or the smaller one - ie 1000 to 1 or 4000 to 1 (I don't know what they are counting for it so can't decide!!) Also, what figures mean it is easier to see regarding screen resolution - eg is 1920 by1080 better than 1680 by 1050?? AS you can see, I am woefully ignorant about these things, but then until about three years ago I had never been near a computer (that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!! I'll be getting a second hand one obviously, but there does seem quite a choice even so!

The bigger is better for contrast ratio but there are more technical issues (which I dont understand) that can affect it so its not just necessarily a case of getting the biggest ratio. It is recommended that for a bigger overall screen size you go for a standard rather than a wide screen format. I have little techincal knowledge of computer hardware tho. Perhaps best you go to PC world or somewhere similar and explain what you want in a monitor and when they have recommended a particular one/type see if you can find it second hand or one with similar specs. That is my strategy for buying computer stuff ;D Other than that in my experience I think size is the most important quality in a monitor. And they say size doesn't matter! ;D

;D Now that is interesting about the wide screen thing, I had noticed most of them seemed to be promoting that - so that is a good tip, stick to standard! The nearest computer shop is about 30 miles away, so i have been looking at Dell and Tesco!! Thinking of size, how much difference does an inch or so make?? ;D Is a 22 inch one so much better than a 19 inch one - my present one is 15! Now polite answers please!!

Lol I should think an inch makes quite a difference ;D Sorry I haven't got a clue - have you looked in the argos catalogue? They have quite a bit of info on tv's etc (that's where I gleen my technical info )

They have quite a bit of info on tv's etc (that's where I gleen my technical info ) Argos came in handy the other day. I had a brochure from the council telling us about latest housing developments etc. It said that all tenants with gas cookers must have ones with a Flame Supervision Device built in. Only it didn't explain what one was. So I looked in Argos at their cooker section and it explained what one was. Fortunately that rule does not apply to me, as I have an electric cooker.

Don't you have a computer shop close by?, If you do go in and sit down in front off sum off there computers and see how they are for size, are you after a laptop?. The more pixels you have the better colour and over all better picher quality. I just got my new apple computer and its so much britter and the coloured are more vivid.
