Hey
Well today I was walking the dogs and suddenly had a memory of this book I used to read a lot in year 3 (It was a school library book)
It was about a girl who lived on a farm. Im pretty sure 'Farm' was in the title.
I dont seem to remember much about the animals, except she had a mongrel dog called 'Russet' or something like that, and she was always getting told off for chasing chickens. There was also another dog, which was a poodle but I think it belonged to her aunt, I cant remember why it was staying with them, but I believe it got sent away to have puppies later on in the book (or father puppies, I cant remember if it was a boy or girl).
The dog called Russet also had puppies, and one of them was like a miniture version of her. At the end of the book, Russet is hit by a car and is killed
Parts I remember!:
I dont know why but I remember when they described the farm house they always said there were window seats at every window.
In one part of the book, they take the dogs to a river and discover Russet is scared of water, even though she is the more dominate one, whereas the poodle loves it.
After Russet dies, the father comes in after burring her and goes 'Russet is chasing chickens in heaven' and the girl says something like 'How can she be bad in heaven' and the dad says shes chasing all the chickens that went to hell or something like that.
And then the girl is sitting in the barn with the puppies and cudding the one that looks like Russet and some boy comes in a says 'Thats your Russet now'.
Dont ask me how I remember that! I was just wondering if it rang a bell for anyone because I loved it and want to read it again!
Thanks x
