Have just been reading The Marvellous Mongolian by James Aldridge. This is an excellent book which must be the only pony book to feature the breed The Przewalski horse! (will be doing a review of it soon) This is set partly in Mongolia, and also in some other parts of the world. Got me thinking that there are not that many pony books set elsewhere other than the UK, USA or Australia. Here is my list from the website:
South America: T S Schiffley - A Tale of Two Horses Helen Griffiths - The Wild Heart
Spain: Pat Smythe - A Spanish Adventure Peter Grey - Kit Hunter Showjumper Fiesta For Wild One (also I think quite a few others are set in different countries)
Italy: C Pullein-Thompson - Bandits in the Hills (A donkey story set in Sicily)
Greece Pullein-Thompson - Save the Ponies Gerald Durrell - The Donkey Smugglers Primrose Cumming - Penny and Pegasus
Norway/Scandinavia: Primrose Cumming - Foal of the Fjords
Switzerland: Pat Smythe - A Swiss Adventure
Asia The Marvellous Mongolian
I'd be really interested to know if anyone can think of any others set in other countries

Isn't there a Pat Smythe book called 3 Jays go to Rome? WHere do they go in 3 Jays go on Holiday?
Also maybe some of the other Helen Griffiths books - Stallion of the Sands, Wild Horse of Santander (south America).

They go to France in the book "Three Jays Go On Holiday" (specifically the Carmague (sp?) region of France). Pat Smythe also wrote a book called "A Swiss Adventure" (set in Switzerland). Primrose Cumming's Foal of the Fjords is set in Norway. Her book "Penny and Pegasus" is set in Greece.

Can't believe I forgot about the 3 Js going to Rome and France!! Also just remembered that some of the Black Stallion ones are not set in the USA. Anyone remember where the island is that Alec and The Black are marooned on? I also had Jumper by Nicholas Kalishnakoff set in Russia. sarah - havent read the Riders by night book. Will have to track down a copy. Must say I do enjoy the books set in different countries. Really enjoyed Primrose Cumming's Penny and Pegasus which I read recently. Reminded me of when I was riding in Corfu last year. However Penny didn't end up with mosquito bites the size of footballs like I did!!
