Hi, funny was just thinking we should update our most wanted lists see what we have got off them and what still to go. Since I wrote the list I can now cross off Change Ponies Jackie, Greater Gains, Secret of pony pass (thanks exmoorfan), Penny and Pegasus.
Has anyone else got any books off their most wanted list?
Still want mystery and treasure on moor. Actually I would rather have treasure than mystery as I have never ever read it, whereas I did read mystery a while back. Sold it before the prices went silly damn!! Also still to go off the list is Jackies Steeplechase and Rebel Pony which I think is the only Pat Leitch book I havent read. (unless I have forgot it which is quite likely)
Another one I want is kathleen herald crab the roan, recently read the other 2 kathleen h books and I would really like to read this one but its not easy to find!
I dont know if there is anything in particular I desperately want although I would like to find some more h m peel, vian smith and pamela macgregor morris books.
Heres a question for you girlies. If you really wanted to read a book but it was very expensive would you buy it to keep or read it and then re-sell it. I would have to re-sell it, my mercenary streak would just not allow me to keep it! ;D

All the books on my want list are most wanted.
But the only significant thing is that I have made quite a substantial dent in my P-T want list.
Still looking for the elusive Caroline Canters Home by Caroline Akrill and Jackie's Steeplechase Adventure by J M Berrisford though.

I actually own a book others want....now there's a first!
I am still after Caroline Canters Home too. And If I Could Ride and Mystery....I think you may have the only copy in existance Garej!
I would also like a copy of The Maltese Cat with colour illustrations and Snowy River Brumby, Crab the Roan.......................................................................Think i will stop there.
Treasure is not that good Claire really and Seahorse there is a reasonably priced copy Of Wendy at wembly on Amazon at min.
I tell OH I will sell it but then usually keep it anyhow. He forgets by time they arrive and are read.

Treasure is not that good Claire really I agree. The "Moors" series of books are my favourite, but the last two are a let down. Not that it was Josephine's fault; it was the publishers. The complete change of characters is a bad thing, it is done badly IMO. Maybe if the Burnetts had been phased out slowly during the first half of Mystery on the Moor it wouldnt been too bad; instead they are consigned to two paragraphs. There isnt even an explanation of what happens to them in Suspicion Stalks The Moor.

Yeah not a huge fan of the moors series. However I can't be a true P-T fan until I have read all of her books so i do want to read it. Its funny how so many of these really rare expensive books are a bit of a let down. There's Rosettes for Royal, Sheila Chapman books, moors series. Also I don't think Picotee is that great (but not bad for a first effort considering their age!) All of these are quite or very rare/expensive but not the authors best by a long way. Could it be that is why they weren't reprinted much and so are harder to find?
Garej it was interesting to find out in Janes interview the reason for the change in characters in the moors books, ie the publishers wanting younger characters. I don't think it would happen today as children tend to prefer reading about much older characters than themselves anyway. Can you imagine Harry Potter, Ron & Hermione getting phased out and replaced with younger characters cos they were too old?! I actually prefer books where the characters grow older and develop but maybe thats cos I'm pretty old myself! ;D

Could it be that is why they weren't reprinted much and so are harder to find? Probably, because sales werent that great, so the publishers didnt think they were worth it. Diana told me that her The Boy and The Donkey/The Donkey Race didnt sell as well as her pony titles, that title is probably the hardest to find of her pony books. Armada did republish it and it is easier to find under the title of "The Donkey Race", but still, not an easy. Though, comparatively speaking, it is easier to find than Suspicion/Mystery/Picotee. I do love that book though, hence why I have it twice (one of each title). Also, the P-T sisters were most popular during the 1950s/1960s and to some extent, the 1970s, Armada & Dragon in their wisdom, republished a lot of their earlier works. Perhaps they felt that Picotee was too "old hat" or perhaps copyright issues prevented them from doing so? A lot of the titles first published in the 1970s onwards (with the exception of the Phantom Horse series; they were published twice during the 1980s) are harder to find. But saying that, Christine's book "A Day to Go Hunting" is not the hardest to find in paperback, though not common either. I hate that book: I am dreading writing that review. It will be like how it was with Diana's The Pennyfields: I struggled to do a review of that book. Fortunately I wont be tackling it until next year.

I SO want to read the three Monica Edwards ones I haven't read, Wild One, (thanks for the review Claire) A Wind is Blowing and Under the Rose. Plus don't get me started on the Silver Brumby ones I haven't read yet - are the Dancing Brumby ones worth going mad for?

YES!!!! I actually like them better than the originals but I know most people don't. Thousandth brumby is my favourite I think...but Dandaloo(dancing brumby) is a fantastic character too!

A Day to go Hunting was my favourite when I was a child/early teens, think I prefer others now but I thought it was very exciting at the time.
