I read this today as I remembered having it as a kid but I think my memory might have got it mixed up as it wasn't what I remembered except the Polio bit.
do any of you lovely people know if there are any other pony books with characters in that had polio? (or is my brain just succumbing to dementia? ;D )
I'm off now to check nags because of beeping fireworks grrr!

Hi Zoe,
Yes, there are a few that spring to mind...
King Sam (US title Tall and Proud) by Vian Smith Dark Sunshine by Dorothy Lyons Show Ring Rogue by Patsey Gray
edited to say, hope the nags are ok! First time I was in London was on GF day....heard fireworks, but didn't get to see any burning effigies...felt I'd missed out! ;D

There was also Stranger than Fiction by Joyce Stranger. However can't see you reading any of these as a child so maybe it was something else? Bonfire night was amazingly quiet around my way. Where I used to live there were kids setting fireworks off for weeks before hand and used to go on til well after midnight on the night itself. We went to see the fireworks display at Richmond castle then came back to my village to make sure the cats were ok with the noise...and there wasnt any at all! Hope everyone else had a quiet night too and all animals OK.

We were quite quiet too apart from an earlier session further away.. BUT I am guessing it will be worse at the weekend.. Went away last year but as its spread out this time would mean having a week away, and what would the poor howsre do.!? ;D Luckily only one dog minds them and a dap collar help quite a bit.

I thought of Martin in the Jill Books, but when I looked it up he fell out of a plane! Don't get me started on fireworks, in the good old days they were pretty, I really liked them, and you could have them in the garden without terrifying every pet and wild animal for miles around. Who decided they had to sound like they do now, why can't they just be pretty! We had them here all Halloween night for goodness sake - they will be having them at Christmas next! This morning the smell was incredible there was no fresh air left to breathe, and I am in the middle of the country so I can't imagine what it was like in towns! I just feel so sorry for the wild birds and animals now it is so inescapable.

Yes it was terrible where I used to live too but I was really surprised at how quiet it was here. I feel quite strongly about fireworks too. I think the sale of them to the public should be banned and only properly arranged displays allowed and only on the night itself. This would keep animal's misery to a minimum and also radically reduce the number of kids and animals that are injured or killed each year. But I cant see them ever doing this when theres money involved Oops sorry for hijacking your thread zoe

I had thought of Pony and Trap by Kathleen MacKenzie, but I checked it, and the brother who was sickly had rheumatic fever, not polio.
