I got this this week, and it is the first time I have seen it in about 10 years.
I always thought it was British, but nope it is Australian, but the main character is English, so that is where I got it from.
Enjoyed the film immensely, but the only thing that is annoying is some of the music, it sounds a bit cheap and crappy, which dates it a lot.
Also, although Amazon list it as a Region 2 DVD, mine is marked as Region 0 DVD, though PAL format.

Ohh _ I used to love this film (but have not seen it for years - probably at least 10). Might have to go order a copy!

I can't remember this one at all...whats it about? May come back to me. A girl who lives on a farm, is forbidden to go to her next door neighbour because she lets them ride. Her mother was killed by a horse so that is why the dad is like that. She however breaks the rule when the girl learns that a foal is being born. Her dad is not happy and sends her off to boarding school. Cue a couple of years later, when she leaves boarding school (as she is old enough, I think she is 18 or something like that. I think they have a different school leaving age in Australia) to get a job. She finds a room in a house with this boy and this Italian lady. She goes to the racetrack, impresses the racehorse stable owner, and is given a job riding the racehorses. However she says that (to the boy she lives with) really she wants to be a showjumper, not a lad. Because one of her horses that she looks after breaks down, it is replaced by another horse - Blue Fire Lady. Blue Fire Lady is the foal she saw being born a few years earlier. Blue Fire Lady is rather temperamental (she is a chestnut mare) and on the racetrack she becomes hard to handle. The girl argues with the jockey, and loses her job. The mare goes to another racetrack, but refuses to go into the starting gates, despite several attempts. The racecourse stewards start the race without the mare, and ban the mare from every race track (this to me, seems a bit harsh, I mean they could just ban for a couple of months or something). Blue Fire Lady is taken to the auction, where the girl hopes to buy her, but knows she will fetch more than she has. However, the boy who she lives with goes to her father's house, and explains how much she loves the mare & try to get him to buy the horse. The father is very reluctant, however, to see his daughter, never mind buy a horse. Cue back to the auction, and the horse fetches more than the girl has got, and to some cowboys (real ones, not dodgy people!) for use in a rodeo. The girl is upset, but finds out that her dad is talked to the cowboys and bought the horse off them. At the end it shows the girl showjumping the mare.

Thanks for that garej. I honestly dont think I have seen it before as nothing rings a bell. At least its on DVD should be fairly easy to find. Well the first time I saw it was when BBC showed it in the late evening until early morning (think 11 pm onwards) so the chances are you probably missed it. I remember setting the VCR to record and then going to bed. Unfortunately Amazon seems to be the only stockist of this DVD (well in the UK anyway), but fortunately it is rather cheap (well excluding postage) if you go for the one marked region 2. There is a region 1 DVD, which again may be actually a region 0, but it could be in NTSC format, which could pose a problem.

Well my computer will play NTSC in fact will play any thing whatsoever! I got an email from amazon to say that now you only need to spend £5 to get free delivery not the £15 it was before this is great news!

I saw it at the cinema when I was very young and I can't yet bring myself to watch it because the lead guy in it- Mark Holden- was a 'teen heartthrob' singer in the 70s and I have always DETESTED that schmaltzy soppy style of romantic sludge. He is now a d#*$head judge on 'Australian Idol' the fool. The dated music in it is probably him if it is sick makingly awful.
'Rough Diamond' is on here at the moment- I missed the 1st episode but I'm enjoying it quite a lot even tho' I detest racing.

I'm with you on that cheesey music. I hate it!
Yes Rough Diamond was on here a while back. Even tho its a load of old tosh and nothing like reality I quite enjoyed it. Was nice to see a horse on mainstream TV at least! Dunno if they are doing another series.

Oh yes - I saw some of the Rough Diamond series - I am a sucker for watching anything with animals in. Don't know which is more fun, working out whether people can actually ride or not, when they use stand ins, or counting how many horses they actually use to play one horse!!
