I've just read this and quite enjoyed it, although Jean and Angus seemed to catapult from one disaster to another. It also reminded me, abit, of Jinny catching Shantih. I just wondered what everyone else thought of it. I'm going to read more of this series next but I don't think I've got them all so it's off to ebay for me yay! ;D

Haven't read this one for years - but remember loving the idea of being able to keep a horse if I could catch it - unfortunately no-one ever made me such an offer! I think the catapulting from one disaster to another continues throughout the series!

Loved the first one, Phantom Horse, but loved them progressively less as the series unfolds! They seemed to get a bit unreal - and I got quite upset with both the Irish one, and the horse slaughterer one (Come home Phantom?) ''Phantom Horse' was responsible for my childhood idea that Americans couldn't be bothered to name their animals

The first two are okay but then like Kunuma and Sarah say they get progesively worese and have one disaster after another. I think at a couple of points the ideas were running a bit thin too. For me it would have been better left at the first two, the rest were overkill.
On the plus isde they are cheap and relatively easy to find. Try Amazon if none cheap on ebay as I bet there are loads of 1p ones which means only £2.76 in total per book

Yes I agree with you lot the first two are the best. I think the first one I ever read tho was the Scotland one as it was in one of those Armada pony book box sets I got one year for Christmas in the good old days. In one of them doesnt Angus get sick of ponies and get rid of his horse - I didnt like that one! I think all CPTs heroes and heroines lurched from one disaster to the next....it was her style!

I see what you mean, just read goes to Ireland and didn't enjoy it that much, it seemed a bit thin on the pony content and slightly unreal (not in a good way).

edited to say gutted can't buy off amazon cos no paypal Amazon dont accept PayPal, they only accept (bank) cards. If you have a bank card, then you can buy off there, as they accept most types of card (including Maestro and Solo). kunama, the horse slaughter one is Phantom Horse in Danger. I think part of the problem is the gap between the first and second book. Phantom Horse was first published in 1955, whereas Phantom Horse Comes Home was first published in 1970. Phantom Horse in Ireland was first published in 1972, whereas the rest were first published in the 1980s. So because there is a gap of 15 years between the first and second, I think Christine had partially lost the momentum and charm that the first book had. I enjoyed the second book (in fact it was the fist one I read) but I think that the last one (Come Home Phantom Horse) is the weakest out of the lot.

The only one I haven't read is the 1st, and being set in the US rather put me off pursuing it, but if you lot think it's read-worthy I'll give it a go! I bought the rest of the series at my son's school fete 2 years ago, along with c. 20 pony books for around $7, and oddly enough it's fete day again today; this morning I dreamt I went there and found gazillions of books, including 'Rivals to Silver Eagle' as well as all manner of wondrous titles- some real, some vividly imagined. I expect to be disappointed, though, I think I've bought all there is to buy in this area of the world!

Cheers garej but I don't do any form of bank card (except hole in the wall one) - I'd be dangerous with a credit card, well bankrupt anyway!!
Cally, I'd recommend the first one
