By John Steinbeck. We are doing his book 'Of Mice and Men' for GCSE so I was wondering if anyone had read this book of his, and if its worth a read. Thought it may be more to my taste!

It is very sad. Steinbeck was not the most upbeat of writers.

Yeah after reading the Mice and Men one I was kinda shocked at first. After analyzing it a zillion times (yawn) I think I understand and it is very cleverly written. Just finished a 4 page essay But anyway yeah I thought I might check out his other work but if its that depressing then maybe ill give it a miss untill I feel like reading a tearjerker... I doubt it would help me get a good grade anyway, I was more attracted by the word 'pony'

I read Of Mice and Men for my GCSE. Shocked me too, and it was a horrid book IMO.

I did Of Mice and Men too...it wasn't as bad as To Kill A Mocking bird! That one went on forever.... Red Pony - Don't do it...it will scar you.

Ah, but there is a difference between tragedy and the fact that it shocks you so much it makes you feel physically sick. Of Mice and Men did just so, whereas other books have not (so far).

There's a reason that a first edition of The Red Pony is among the cheapest and easiest to find of all pony books....don't go there, trust me :-(

Hmm... alright. I have it in a big anthology of his books and its tempting I must say but I guess I can give it a miss, plenty more to read!
