Here's a list of all the ones I've seen or owned on DVD/VHS since I started riding and watching horsey films!
Seabiscuit Dreamer Into the West Amanda Black Beauty (1994) Black Beauty (1971) Daydream Believer The Electric Horseman The Horse Whisperer Flicka (remake) My Friend Flicka (original version) Thunderhead - Son of Flicka The Green Grass of Wyoming Phar Lap The Black Stallion The Black Stallion Returns The Young Black Stallion Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron Hidalgo Touching Wild Horses Racing Stripes Shergar Champions National Velvet International Velvet The Long Shot
Hell, that's quite a list - and most of them I have on DVD!! I'm sure I'm missing a couple, though...
Not quite a film, but it's a must-have for anyone is the DVD of The Great Clydesdale Migration - the 450 mile trip from the Isle of Skye to Millom in Cumbria by a team of Clydesdales and Shires, which later became the Cumbrian Heavy Horses.

Great list Daren.....and a question: what did you think of Green Grass of Wyoming? I've never seen it, and keep wondering if I should spring for the dvd set, which is the only way it's available.

From what I remember of it, it was OK, although there are a couple of sequences in it which involve a couple of quite nasty-looking sulky crashes.

I thought Green Grass was on the crescent moon youtube channel but when I checked its Thunderhead. Daren as you like films you may be able to help me kick-start our film club which seems to have died a death after a couple of films. I'm going to try and get it started again after Christmas.

You'd think it would be easier, wouldn't you....after all, it's a max of two hours to watch a film!

Yeah, I could give it a shot. I take it everyone is looking forward to WAR HORSE next month* *Christmas Day, if you happen to be in America.

Me too! I don't normally like going to the cinema and usually watch films on DVD but I may make an exception in this case. Its the first really BIG horsy film since Seabiscuit.

I'm dying to see War Horse, but still debating whether or not to see it in the cinema.....I bawled buckets through, well, through quite a lot of the book, and I'm thinking it might be a film I'd rather not see in public!! ;D

When I saw War Horse at the theatre a few months ago I started blubbing right at the beginning! I dare say I'll be doing it all the way through the film ;D

The question is can we wait for the DVD?!! We may have to lurk at the back of the cinema where no-one can see us ;D

I've got the box set, the first two are both very good, same actors directors etc, the third, GGoW is completely different and appears to have forgotten all about the horses and gone all Mills and Boon. Now I'm a cynical non romantic so it didn't do it for me..............though I'm off tonight for a good old lust after Robert and Taylor alias Edward and Jacob!! ;D

I'm off tonight for a good old lust after Robert and Taylor alias Edward and Jacob!! ;D Watch out there's a cougar about!!! ;D So you are off to see the latest Twilight film. Not sure if I fancy that one as I didnt like that book. All that pregnancy & imprinting stuff was a bit icky! Going back to Green Grass, I don't think I've seen the film either, but the book did have a lot of mushy romantic stuff in it too.

TWILIGHT?! They're not real vampires or werewolves!!! Where's the neck-biting? Where's the full moon? Where's the CARNAGE?!
I actually met Robert Pattinson once, before he became a moping emo wannabe. He was sitting opposite me on the bus. My girlfriend at the time recognised him 'cos he was in Harry Potter at the time.
Anyway, I digress.....! I watched Hidalgo the other day. Still a great fun film to watch.

When I meet him there will be no moping .................and plenty of neck biting................. Claire, the film is better than the book - lots of romance and very icky pregnancy and even more icky new baby ICK - but lots of hot guys with their shirts off and a sound track to die for! The whole imprinting thing is handled much better too. Back to horses, I've got Dreamer and Running Wild to watch but don't want to watch them if there are sad bits - anyone remember??

Running Wild is a blub fest and even the non-blubby bits are a bit depressing. Can't remember if there were any sad bits in Dreamer. STILL haven't got round to watching Hidalgo keeps eluding me for some reason.
Daren thats a pretty good celebrity spot! Best I can do is Robby Carlyle (from the Full Monty) saw him once in Exeter Airport when he was ogling my backside when I bent down in tight jeans! ;D ;D ;D

Oh yes? Tell me more! Anyhoo.... Dreamer is pretty good. Based on a true story, too (the film actually refers to its basis in a line of dialogue!). Bit of a head's up - Black Beauty is on TV tomorrow here in the UK, but as I was in a shop looking at a TV magazine, I didn't quite manage to note what time or channel!

It's the 1994 film - the best version of the story.

(is it the Mark lester film with 'white' pony on cover?) never watched it past that point as a kid (or since) Blonde moment (or possibly senior one!) it's not Running Wild, which is the Oliver Twist on Dartmoor one - but something called Running Free with the Amish boy from Witness starring in it! I'll lend it to someone to watch so you can tell me if it is sad or not!

I think I might have that one somewhere kunuma. If I find it I'll test it for you to make sure its not too sad!
