Hi, was wondering if anyone has this book and can give me a brief outline of what happens in it. I have the sequel to it and want to read it but am one of these picky people who like to read series in order! I did read A Pony and his Partner a while back but have forgot what happened in it so if anyone can put me up to speed I'd be very grateful

Not a fan of Ms Chapman...I feel her books are very hyped and pretty poor really compared with other pony books of that era but then again she was very very young so maybe you can forgive her a bit? A Pony and his Partner is probably the best of the three I have read.
It is about Carmen (an orphan - dead parents seem to be a common feature in her books, as do badly injured/lame ponies) who goes to live with her cousins. Carmen is a very talented horsewoman (naturally) and by and by acquires a nervous and difficult pony Oberon who she works miracles with and wins at HOYS! Along the way it's actually an okay (if not predictable - but very young girls dream) kind of story. It isn't all plain sailing for Carmen and at several points we are told how she 'masters' Oberon, which rather spoil it for me but I guess that was how it was (and by most folk still is perceived the way to treat a horse unfortunately). The book ends happily with the win at HOYS and Carmen being adopted by famous show jumper Joe Trent. I was rather confused as to whether he was her uncle or not, I am not sure if the Author knew, or maybe it was dead clear but I missed it? The sequel The Mystery pony, was disappointing to be frank imo but maybe you will love it Claire!

Many thanks for that haffyfan will be able to pick up the thread a bit now. Will let you know what I think of Mystery Pony when I've read it!
BTW agree with you on the fact they are over-hyped but perhaps its just cos they are very rare?

Forgot I was going to post my views on Mystery Pony when finished. Well haffyfan I didnt love it but did quite like the book. Not as good as Partner but a lot better than Fire. Her books always read a little oddly to me the writing style is very literal and not subtle at all. I think it was maybe her age. Altho pretty good for a teenager I still think she would have done better to wait 10 years before writing the books. Also she does like death and disaster doesnt she?
