Musical Ride by Peggie Cannam This year our Autumnal read has a 'back to school' rather than a spooky Halloween theme - so I've chosen this pony story set in a school. Discussion in approx 2 weeks.

Finished! Picked it up and read it in a day.
Fairly short at 150 pages, but good horsey detail, school and mystery/ adventure…something for everyone 😉

Good going Susan! I haven't started yet as have had a friend staying for a few days.
Have added poll now - for some reason it wouldn't let me add it earlier. If you could pop in a vote that would be great.

Done!
I’m off all this week, just chillin’, enjoying the unseasonably warm weather and reading 📖 😊
Hope you’re having a terrific visit with your friend!

Nice weather too for the main part, though not warm here, but plenty of sun - which was in short supply all summer! Back to nornmal now. I'm just finishing off a couple of books I wanted to read on Kindle Unlimited before my offer runs out then I'll make a start on Musical Ride. I forgot it had Sheila Rose illustrations!

I may have to sit this one out as I can't find a cheap copy anywhere and Christmas is looming on the horizon, which will no doubt be very expensive this year with the so-called 'cost of living crisis.'

Finally finished. A bit slow (sorry Darkhorse) due to another bout of the dreaded bronchitis. Yes the book has a bit of everything thrown in, as Susan said. However, for me, I wasn't overly keen on the crime element - but that is a personal preferance. Although I do like crime and thriller books as a genre, I prefer a pony book's plot to centre more around the ponies themselves. So the (rather preposterous lol) crime sub-plot makes it a good rating for me rather than a very good. What do others think about crime elements in pony books? I'd be interested to know. On the plus side, it was an easy, fun read. The riding mistress was suitably unpleasant and the heroine was likeable. My favourite bits were the banter between the girls. And Gerry uncovering the crime but being black-mailed into keeping it quiet, wa a more interesting plot than the usual uncovering of the villains at the end a la an episode of 'Scooby Do!' Oh and it was a shame that there were no illustrations, other than the colour frontispiece, especially considering it was Sheila Rose.
