Am I ever! I did go on and read Horses for Courses, smiley, please! I really enjoyed it, will comment on the dedicated thread once I have gathered my thoughts. Yay for the extension.....Spanish Adventure is my last book, but I think it's hit or miss as to my finishing up the challenge this year

I've managed to finish all my books this year! A smiley for Fiesta for Wild One. I didn't find it as good as you did Claire, but then I haven't been to Spain a lot and only the tourist places. I thought it was a bit patronising towards the Spanish. I liked the humour, the rescue story and, like you, I also found the different rules in the show jumping interesting. On the strength of it I may try another one in the series, but wouldn't rush out to buy any. Thanks again for the book Claire.

Well done Darkhorse, you're first past the post this year! Susan, don't forget the option of a frownie for not finishing a book. No requirement to plough to the end of a book if it's too painful

Smiley for:-
"Incapability Brown"
A surprisingly deep and, in parts, even moving book
Definitely made me want the sequel
Which means I have finished the challenge

Well done Tintin! Sorry I somehow missed your rating for Breed of Giants. Yes, when I read Incapability Brown I was also plesantly surprised at how good it was, having expected the usual chick lit fodder.
Oh also for everyone who has finished/will be finishing soon - don't forget to choose your STAR BOOK!

Thanks for the extension I am now finished (that's probably a first!) can i have a smiley for Only One Pony, still not an Author i'd be in a hurry to read anything from again but better than Surprise Riding Club, although the somewhat hasty burglary plot at the end seemed a pointless addition to me. I guess it served a purpose towards being allowed to keep both ponies but i enjoyed the first 3/4 far more than the this final bit.
Star book - if i can have two I would say The Starlight Pony and Course for Horses, if only one i'm going to be controversial and choose The Starlight Pony over the Caroline Akrill

I may take you upon that, but I still have one weekend left to see what I can do!

As Spanish Adventure is pretty unlikely to improve enough to be a star read, I can make my selection now....Courses for Horses by Caroline Akrill Haffy, I hadn't heard of Starlight Pony or Cressida Burton before! The book is available via kindle, and I've snapped up a copy. This is one of my favorite things about the summer/winter challenges.....finding new authors

Hi there. Unfortunately due to various reasons I was unable to read beyond the first book. Though I did start Courses for Horses.
If anyone would like a rosette please lmk either by saying your address has remained the same as previous years or if not lmk your new one. I won't be awarding myself a rosette.

Very hard to choose as all the books very vividly paint a picture of the world they describe, but
Breed of Giants
just pips the others for my vote for Star Book

Yes I agree that the burglary plot was a bit lame and was the low point in (for me anyway) an excellent traditional pony story. Sorry to hear you haven't been able to complete the challenge Garej. I hope you manage to finish Courses for Horses as it's a great read. Thanks, as always for the offer of rosettes. I'm plugging on with Pony Trek, finding it hard going, got further than the last attempt but its just too slow to grab my attention. I will give it one last push and then move on to the Whitby Witches which I've read before a long time ago, so I know I will be able to complete it pretty quickly - hopefully in time for the dead-line!

I'm struggling to pick a star read. I really enjoyed 4 of my books this year. Is it possible to choose more than one?

Yes darkhorse some of us have picked 2 before when we just can't choose. Great that you have really enjoyed so many of the books on the challenge.
Well it's a neutral for Pony Trek by Hilda Boden. I did manage to finish it but it was very slow and hard going. I liked the Welsh setting whoch brought back nmemories of staying on a welsh farm over summers as a child, and the welsh ponies I rode there. But I found the main characters quite priggish and full of themselves. But the main downside was just that it meandered along with no real plot and really needed a good edit. I think this was the author's first pony book and she certainly tightened up her plots and style in later ones.
So 2 days to polish off The Whitby Witches and that will be me finished too.

Can I get a frowny for didn't like/didn't finish for Spanish Adventure? Lovely cover, but basically a sleeping pill in book form. I may keep it on the nightstand, in case of insomnia

I may keep it on the nightstand, in case of insomnia Haha...if it's anything like the Swiss Adventure, that's a great description. Smiley for me for The Whitby Witches by Robin Jarvis. OK I still have a little bit left but what's a few pages between friends. I was a bit ambitious in initially putting the whole Whitby Witches trilogy on my list. But I will continue with the others now the challenge is finished. I enjoy books set in places I have visited and Whitby is one of my favourite places. Oh and my star read is Courses for Horses.
