I know that the showhorse site is part of a mega big collection of sites and taken very seriously by a lot of people, but I think Howrse has got the 'cleverer' approach. On Showhorse , if you don't subscribe you are basically equine pond scum, and can't do anything fun like breed. This after a while is actually putting me off playing, and not making me feel like subcribing, Whereas Howrse sneakily let you do everything, you can just do it so much faster and more easily with a bit of cash thrown in. So you are well and truly into the game even as a novice, and not skulking round the alleyways like on Showhorse!! OK someone take their side now!

I agree with you. I was thinking of having a look at showhorse but it sounds the same as showdog which I registered for and then couldnt be bothered to play for the very reason that you couldnt play the full game unless you subscribe and were considered very much a poor relation (my login was bonio-m...the OAPs will get the joke ) Yes howrse does have the psychological edge in drawing you in and then making you feel you must have certain items you have to pay for. I guess they are all in it to make money but its a pity there is not a no-profit making similar game out there. As in the real world if you want good bloodstock you have to pay for it, which is a shame as you cant even get away from capitalism in the virtual world

Yes, Showdog is even worse because as a basic you don't even get pictures - so the 'dogs' are never individuals and it really requires suspensions of disbelief. I've gone on with a rare breed and done some shows and have had my one litter, but they won't sell you a good dog, and you can't earn any money - but pay the same huge entry fees, so eventually I will just fizzle out in a bankcrupt heap - wait a minute - did I say it wasn't realistic!?

Well, honestly, I will never complain about the Howrse forum again!! I finally gave up with Showhorse when they decided non subscribers were no longer allowed to post on the forums at all!! Way to encourage new players!!!!!!!!!!! NOT! (I must have my business head on all wrong, as I thought you should treat non subscribers as potential subscribers and encourage them for all you are worth!!) Oh yes, and that's after deciding over the past few weeks, that these terrible non-subscribers could no longer earn money, which you have to use to enter competitions, or bid on expensive horses even if they could afford them! They must lose so much in the long run from their attitude - makes Owlient look like the soul of generosity!! Funnily enough a common subject on the forums is how awful Howrse is and how anyone who doesn't like Showhorse should go and play on Howrse, good idea,so I decided to do that!!!!!!!! ;D
