This book is about a young lady called Katy who produces horses with her mother. Katy is 15. The book is second of a series of nine called the Pony Jumpers set in the world of junior show jumping in New Zealand. This is the second.
Katy has already played a leading role in the first book in the series where she has acted as a bit of a show jumping mentor to the novice AJ who has become a good friend. Katy's position as a horse trainer has its down side in that the horses often don't stay long and can be sold to riders who are much inferior horsewomen. Central to this book is her separation from a particularly loved horse, a string of bad luck, a budding romance and the re-emergence of her estranged father
I thought the book was really good. Fans of show jumping will love it. It is very good on what it feels like to be between childhood and adulthood. It had a delightfully unexpected happy ending that really cheered me up. Convincing horses and convincing riders
These are classic pony books - small in size, but full of action and character and good lessons about horses and people. They reminded me very much of the Noel and Henry series in that there is almost, but not quite, too much technical detail - the strength and vividness of the characters carry you through
The books are also a nice handy size with attractive covers and lots of information about the companion volumes. From this we learn that the author has competed herself and was a youth counsellor - experience which shows!
As time permits I will definitely read 3, 4 and 5
Only one complaint - it's rude about Pizza Hut! Pizza Hut is boss (especially the cheesey garlic bread)
Book is a 4 pushing 5 for me - if I was more into show jumping it would definitely be a 5
