I can take sad books with people but when animals are hurt or die its just unbearable. I can never read Black Beauty again, or Ponies in the Forest or Animal Farm

Yes, Black Beauty had a tremendous impression on me too, I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't the reason I got involved in rescue work, and def the start of my 'The more people I meet the more I love my horse/dog phase'! Needless to say - I am still in that phase!! I have never been able to read it again either, and I am sure it is why I am paranoid about fire near stables!

Seahorse...not to worry about Older Mousie....like the first book, Mousie goes through his trials and tribulations, but all is well in the end (something of a spoiler, but I'll do it anyway...he doesn't die in the end.)
Re Black Velvet...I've heard a number of people mention that one reduced them to tears, but haven't heard if the others are tragic or not...wish someone would bravely forge ahead and read them though, as I've got the two omnibus (Black Beauty's Familly, Black Beauty's Clan) sitting in my tbr pile and I'm scared! :-)

The ending of Black Ebony absolutely tore me apart; though I suspect it wouldn't have had the same effect as a child or teenager. All of the trilogy are really sad and really good and I recommend them to anyone who hasn't read them. Black Ebony is the most heart-rending I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but if you have read it you will know what I mean.

I cant find Black Ebony anywhere havn't yet read the other two but am thinking of ordering them. Can anyone reccomend some good books? I am a teenager but I can cope with more mature reading. I just need something which is actualy brilliant. Oh yes Black Beauty is a real tear jerker... I got the video when I was 5, it was a cartoon and there was a stable girl instead, and at the end all the horses were at a horse market and ginger went to live with a little girl, and Black beauty went with the original stable girls son. I was shocked when I was old enough to read the book! But I have a lovely coloured edition

I cant find Black Ebony anywhere havn't yet read the other two but am thinking of ordering them. Can anyone reccomend some good books? Have you checked out the adult page on the main website? That lists books which are suitable for older readers (teenagers). Books that spring to mind are Bargain Horses by Gillian Baxter and A Job With Horses by JPT. If you are after every single Black Beauty's relative book, there are several which are:- Black Ebony (by JPT) Nightshade (by JPT) Black Raven and the Witch (by JPT) Black Princess (by DPT) Black Romany (by DPT) Black Piper (by DPT) Blossom (by CPT) Black Pioneer (by CPT) Here is a page which lists where to find the various Black Beauty relatives books (not all appeared in the same edition) janebadgerbooks.co.uk/bbf1Also, if you do like the style, I suggest you try Black Swift (which by the way is not a Black Beauty's relative book, even though the title suggests so) by JPT.

As Garej said above I have a page on my website which lists books which have more adult themes suitable for older teenagers and adults. The link is here: www.ponymadbooklovers.co.uk/page33.htmlI would recommend Caroline Akrill, Samantha Alexander, Primrose Cumming, K M Peyton and Patricia Leitch as having some of the best pony stories which are not too childish. We had a thread a while back with a list of lesser known authors to try. Will see if I can find it and add the link too.

Although Black Ebony is my favourite out of this series I found Black Velvet very moving especially the closing paragraphs.
