Hi folks, I wonder if you can help me with a query I was asked on the facebook page. Someone is trying to remember a book they read as a child. In it a girl meets a pony that talks and the pony teaches her all about horse care, etc. I came up with Silver Snaffles but couldn't think of anything else. It would have been published in the 1970s at the latest, probably UK. I'd also be interested to know what other books there are out there with horses that talk - just for my own curiosity. Ta in advance for any suggestions.

Pony plot has talking ponies but not to the kids the animals talk in silver brumbies. The only ones I can think of off hand where the horse talks to it rider is A horse and it's Boy and a new one called Sharlott and the Starlett. Sorry I'm not much help, mums back in hospital a infection this time.

Aw sorry to hear about your mum Trixie. Hope she gets better soon.
Well I heard back from the person and Silver Snaffles is the book after all. Janet Rising wrote a series where the pony talked to his owner, that was quite recently. There's not really that many.

Glad it turned out to be the right book...when I saw your post, I immediately thought of that 1970s Knight paperback of Silver Snaffles...the modern cover might easily make someone think it was a more recent book, especially if they bought it new at the time.
Trixie, so sorry to hear about your Mum....hope she's better soon!

Thanks Claire thanks susanb, yes grate that the book was the right one. I have one now, I remember a book I read as a kid but can't remember much there where 2 girls and 1 pony thay shear, the paddocks owner puts a yearling in with there pony and that's the problem the yearling is obsessed with the girls pony and follows them every were, rolls under the fence to follow. One thing with it the illustrations there just like the ones in Bobbie's Sponsored Ride so probably Douglas Phillips. The girls get very frustrated with the foal as it nips them when thay ride there pony.
