The second edition Jinny books, the ones with a white horseshoe at the top, does anyone know what year they were published?

Hello ladyofthelake. The 'white horseshoe' editions were reprints from books 1 to 7 but from books 8 onwards they were actually the first editions. I am not 100% sure of the publishing dates of the first 3 as I don't have any of these particular editions to hand. They were possibly published in 1983 at the same time as books 4 to 7. If anyone else has any of the white horseshoe editions and can check could you please post here? Anyway this is what I've come up with: WHITE HORSESHOE PAPERBACK EDITIONS Reprints: For Love of a Horse, A Davil to Ride & The Summer Riders - not known, possibly 1983 Night of the red Horse - 1983 Gallop to the Hills - 1983 Horse in a Million - 1983 The Magic Pony - 1983 First Editions: Ride Like the Wind - 1983 Chestnut Gold - 1984 Jump for the Moon - 1985 Horse of Fire - 1986 Running wild - 1988 More info about the books on my web page: patricialeitch.ponymadbooklovers.co.uk/Hope this helps.

I've discovered now that the one I want, For Love of a Horse, is from 1984, but I can't find anyone on the whole internet selling that edition. The cover is a girl hugging a horse on a rocky beach.

I know which one you mean: For some reason these editions seem hard to find nowadays, although the earlier editions aren't. I'll keep my eye out for it. If any forum members have a copy of this edition they'd like to sell let us know.

Yep, that's the one. I want it because I'm re-reading these books now, more than 20 years after I first read them as a child, and I want them to have the same covers that they did when I first had them. I don't like the covers of the reprints that started getting published in 2010. They are too sunny and pretty and girly, I don't feel that they are in keeping with the spirit of the books at all. I love the covers that are greay and misty and bleak-looking, not only because they're the ones I remember, but because they are a more accurate representation of what's inside. I wish they'd re-print them with the old covers!

Also this might sound an odd question, but are there any photos of Patricia Leitch? I've always wondered what she looks like, but when I google her name lots of people come up.

I quite like the new covers but I do prefer the older ones, they are more in keeping with the spirit of the books. But it seems the fashion that pony books now are bright and girly looking. I'm not sure if I have a photo of Patricia anywhere. I'll have a look.

Now i think i'm going mad as i can't find the picture i'm imagining anywhere, it was her on her black pony Kirsty, which i think was a highland x. But i did find these on Fair Horses and last Summer To Ride. Attachments:

Thanks for putting those pics up Haffy. I knew I had one somewhere - on flap of Dream of Fair Horses. I dont think you're going mad - a photo of her on a black pony sounds familiar to me too, unless it was a different author entirely!

Thanks for the pictures, haffy!
Add me to those who have a fuzzy memory of a picture of the author with a black pony, which I always presumed was Kirsty.

Always better to enter the realms of insanity with friends by your side i find. I'm glad it's not just me but still haven't found the offending picture!

I have my old editions in the original covers, apart from 4 & 5 are in a double paperback. Would it be the actions of a fanatical obsessive to buy old copies of 4 and 5 singly so the set is properly "complete"?! It always annoyed me that 11 was a picture rather than a photo, and that it's a different horse in 12. I think I liked the cover of 3 best- all fuzzy and gleaming in the sun.
