What do you guys think of the Triology? I prefered "First Rosette".
"For want of a Saddle" I find boring.

I think you are a little confused.
The David and Pat books are:-
* The First Rosette * The Second Mount * Three to Ride * The Lost Pony
However, the Lost Pony does introduce Mick and Janice, which do feature in the For Want Of A Saddle.

I wouldnt actually say The Lost Pony was part of the David and Pat series, altho David is in it, as far as i recall he is more of an advisor to the children who are the main characters, may be wrong tho as my memory isnt great! In my view I would class the three books with a number in the title (first, second, three) as the David and Pat sereis: 1. The First Rosette 2. The Second Mount 3. Three to Ride and then the other two as the Mick and Janice series: 1. The Lost Pony 2. For Want of a Saddle Both of the series being linked by David. But thats just my opinion!
But back to the question. I enjoy the 3 books in the order they were written. I like the First Rostte one best and Three to Ride the least, it seemed to have the most of the characteristic CPT doom and gloom in it!
Quite enjoyed the M and J books as I thought they were a little bit different to the norm, but preferred the David and Pat ones.

I have the first edition of "The Lost Pony" and it says that is a follow up to The First Mount etc. So officially, it is the same series, and For Want Of A Saddle is just a book on it's own, with the same characters as in The Lost Pony.

Hmmm it wouldnt be the first time the blurb on a book was wrong! I could never say For want of a Saddle was a book on its own as it is a definite continuation of Mick and Janices story. If Lost Pony was officially part of the series then Saddle would have to be part of the series too. Unfortunately cant ask Christine to clarify

Talking of CPT gloom, I seem to remember a bus crash in one of the books, is it "The Second Mount"? I was in a Pony Club bus when the driver lost control on a steep hill; there would probably been loss of life had not one of the Pony Club dads been a lorry driver and taken the wheel. So perhaps CPT isn't so far fetched after all.
The trilogy of books is very depressing I think, everything seems gloomy.

Most of the bad things that happen in her books arent far-fetched in themselves its just that they all seem to happen to one person/one family. TBH I find all of CPTs books slightly depressing, not that I don't enjoy reading most of them but I'd be hard-pushed to think of any of her books that wasnt full of doom and gloom......anybody??

Yes you could be right there, she wasnt quite the usual pessimistic CPT character was she? Maybe it was writing it under a different name got rid of all Christine's gloom!

I too, liked First Rosette best of the three....it wasn't so much the doom and gloom of the later books that got me down, as Pat abandoning David to be a deb in London....what a lack of priorities! :-)
