This is copied from the other place, not my idea. I was wondering and I'm interested, to pose two simple questions: which pony book/s would you be in and what would you do?
I would perhaps be Harriet in DPT's Friends Must Part, and be somewhat reckless in both riding and caring for a pony. Think I'd jump logs etc, canter/gallop around.

Ruth in Fly by Night/the Team. I was a lot like her when young and in a similar situation with not a lot of money to spare. Also as a child i had a crush on Peter I'd like to say I would be Noel from JPT's Pony Club series but I would be too lazy and not dedicated enough to become good at dressage like she did. I'm afraid I was more like the Radcliffes as a child, galloping madly about the countryside lol.

Much to everyone's annoyance who is a Jinny hater - I'd probably be Jinny!!! Though if I'm allowed to count the ME books, I'd be Lindsey - and I wouldn't have let them part with Moonlight, and I'd have got a new puppy when they lost Glen - and I'd have had Peter's mice and hamsters in my bedroom (hamsters don't like being outside!)

Thought about it. I'd be Jill which will annoy Jill haters I'd have also like to be any of the characters in The Horsemasters by Don Stanford. It was based on Porlock vale Riding School in Exmoor. How I'd have love to do my exams there!

LOL Claire I can relate to poor old Noel and her needle and not feeling like she's good, that was me, never got to ride anugh to know if I could get dressage so don't know about that but I'll think and see if there are outhers.

I think I would like to be one of the Taronga Road riders. They are ordinary people with ordinary strengths and weaknesses and the horses all have great characters too.

I always fancied being Nettie from the Woodbury books because Tristram was such a perfect pony, jackie from jump to the top or sara from prince Among ponies would have been other close contenders. I guess theres a bit of a theme about winning things, i was very competitive as a child and competed every weekend in summer but funny how things change, haven't competed at all since i was 20. Would not take my two current horrors out in public!!

Its funny I was quite competitive as a child but not really with horses. I preferred hacking about the countryside to competing. Like Cloud I wouldn't have minded being Jinny. Would love to live at Finmory. I stayed at a similar place in Scotland for a holiday as a child and whenever I read a Jinny book I see that place as Finmory in my mind.

I'd like to be Augusta from DPT's I wanted a pony, or Dora from the Follyfoot books. (My favourite series ever.) I'm not quite like either but I can be almost as blunt as Dora and I look up to the owner of the riding school I work at in the same way Dora admires the Captain. Oh yes, I hate wearing skirts. That settles it, I must be Dora.

It was both of them, Brook was young and inexperienced and Amanda could think of everything that could go wrong!

I've just remembered an incident when I was 10 when I woke up as Tamzin Grey one morning. I really can't describe it better, I just WAS Tamzin.

I have avoided this thread because I cannot possibly choose just one! Like others, I would love to live at Finmory and have Shantih and Bramble for my own. Finmory has mountains, moors, and the sea all in one place! Hard to beat that! And a chestnut Arabian and a Highland pony! I would love to be artistic like Jinny, too. And to RIDE to school, at least for some years of my education. Wow. what a life.
Even with losing Will and having a difficult personal life, I could go for being Christina in the Flambards books. But as for what would I do (from the original question in the OP) - I would NOT go for Mark.
Honestly, I think Ruth in her many books is a fabulous character and I definitely identify with her right on up to her standing up for herself with Pat in Marion's Angels. But she gives up horses, and I also identify so much with her insecurities and her less-than-wealthy background with parents who aren't horsey, so overall I would not swap with her, even for Toadhill Flax. Esp. since she was willing to sell Fly-by-Night.
I could also be any of the main characters in Sharon Siamon's Saddle Island Trilogy because I would love to live in Nova Scotia. I even think I could love the American southwest as she depicts it in her Wild Horse Creek books, as well. I would enjoy being either of the twins who are the protagonists of that series.
But if I really have to choose just one - Jinny and Shantih and Bramble and Finmory and how Jinny appreciates the whole vast kaleidoscope of life.
PS: I would not mind at all being Pam or especially Emily in Pam's Paradise Ranch, which is set in Hawaii. Though I would hope to have less of the racial snobbery toward native Islanders than slightly permeates that overall wonderful book.
