Hi all this is doing the rounds on facebook at the mo. Thought I'd post it here so the non FB using members can try their hand at it too. Basically its a list of 100 classic books which the well read person should have tackled! Apparently the average is only 6!!! www.listchallenges.com/kaunismina-bbc-6-books-challenge?ref=sharePlease feel free to post your scores here, or discuss the choice of books, etc. Top scorer of our lot on facebook was Kunuma who got 62. Can anyone beat her? I got 54.

I got 6 Lol Rosie you must be completely average then lol My score was quite high as I read quite a few of them on English lit course. I probably wouldn't have picked them up otherwise. Tho I must admit I do like reading some classic older literature for pleasure.

I got 64...of course I am old, so a lot of those were classics when I was young and I actually read War and peace traveling from Melbourne to Adelaide by train, which is a pretty terrible trip! She did put in Complete Works of Shakespeare and then Hamlet as a separate book, and then The Chronicles of NArnia and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe as two separate reads. Another unusual read for me waas The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime; my son has a mild form of Asperger's and it was recommended to me as giving me a greater understanding into how his mind worked. it didn't do that; Sheldon on The Big BAng Theory is much closer to how Stephen thinks but it was a challenging thought provoking read. That's why I love pony books so much; sheer enjoyment!

Wow thats a good score Vera, surprised that anyone could top kunuma's! There's a few on the list I feel I should get round to reading. I haven't read The Curious Incident. Might give it a go some time. Yes there were a couple of duplicates so it was really only out of 98 lol

Yes I'm old enough that many of them were forced down me in school! Put me off Shakespeare for life! But I love Bronte and Austen etc

43 and a bit for me.....I've read a good bit of Shakespeare, but not the complete works!
So-so as lists go....as Vera pointed out, there are duplicates, and I'd argue that nobody needs to read the DaVinci Code, which was one of the worst written books I've ever suffered through.

I'd argue that nobody needs to read the DaVinci Code, which was one of the worst written books I've ever suffered through. Lol I didn't actually think the Da Vinci Code was too bad but when I tried to read his other books I just got so sick of that formulaic cliffhanger at end of every chapter. It got silly. I think the list is meant to include some modern iconic titles which captured public interest at the time (like The Da Vinci Code, Bridget Jone's Diary, etc) as well as more classic and 'literary' books. We should be grateful that Fifty Shades of Grey didnt make the list!!!

But then i'd have added another to my pitiful score To counter some of my ignorance i have read a fair bit of Shakespeare (Not saying i enjoyed it all mind!), however not the complete works as it had listed.

But I'd still be average as I haven't read it Am I the only person on the planet who hasn't? No I haven't read it either. I did read a little bit of it to see what all the fuss was about but gave up after a few pages. It was dire! I've also read quite a bit of Shakespeare haffy, but not all either. Who has read the entire works or the entire bible for that matter?

I got 26. I've read quite a few books by Zola and Huxley, but not the ones on the list. I have never been able to read either Austen or Dickens. Captain Correlli's Violin was dreadful and I would never bother with Dan Brown.....& no I haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey.

Ckaire when I was about ten years old the Pastor who was teaching me my confirmation class said that nobody could read the entire bible right through because it was too long. I had just read "Desiree" which was 1,000 pages long and my Bible was 1,600 pages long. I thought if I could read the one book I could read the other. Ignorant child that I was. However I persevered, although I can't say I understood much of what I read. These days you have lovely easy to read translations, back then it was only The King James which is not easy for anyone let alone a ten year old. So yes I have done it; one of my crazier efforts. It took me two years and I can still can't believe I did. When I told the PAstor that it could be done and I had done he was gob smacked and left us for another parish! I have not read the Da Vinci Code as nothing ever said about that book made me want to read it. Rowena brought 50 Shades of Grey into the house. I asked her if she enjoyed it and she said if you skip the boring bits you are left without twenty pages of interest

Damn-only 16! Do I live in a cave or something? The ones I have read are: Harry Potter series, To Kill a Mockingbird,The Hobbit, Alice in Wonderland, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Winnie-the-Pooh, Anne of Green Gables, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Of Mice and Men, The Lovely Bones,Oliver Twist, The Secret Garden, Swallows and Amazons, Charlotte's Web and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Oh I missed one. The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Make that 16. I'd forgotten I ever read that.
I tried to read 'the entire bible' when I was seven. In quotation marks because it was actually an abridged version. I didn't even reach the New Testament. But since I am an atheist it wasn't all that interesting to me. My favourite bit was Leviticus.
