Hey all!
Trying to remember the name of a couple of series of books that I read when I was a kid (or the name of the author).
The only thing I can remember about the first one, really, is that they were about a family that had ponies, one of whom was named "Top Honor." In a second book, they acquired a young filly they named "Coquette." I remember that book most clearly for two reasons: 1) I was sick in bed with the mumps when I first read it, which means I would have read it sometime in the late '60s. My mom picked it out for me from the library because I was horse-crazy, and 2) It was the first time I encountered the term "green" meaning "young/untrained," and it baffled me, because I couldn't quite imagine a horse being "green" in color!
The other series of books involved a young girl who ultimately became an Olympic rider in the years right before women were allowed to compete in three-day and stadium jumping. In the first book, "Java Jive," she starts out trying to ride a neighbor's Morgan mare with an improvised Indian bridle, and ends up the owner of the mare's Morab foal (the title character), which she almost loses due to her parents' anger over her carelessness at home, which nearly burns their house down. In the next book, "Smoke Rings," she rescues a grey horse named "Smoke Rings" and ends up riding him in the Olympic trials.
Any help re authors, or ideas as to where I might find copies, would be appreciated!

Hi Audrey, thanks for posting. I think I can help with your query. The first series was written by Nancy Caffrey and follows Jay and Jan and their ponies. There are 3 books in the series: Somebody's Pony (aka Lost Pony), Show Pony and Horsehaven. More info on the series and author hereThe other series was by Dorothy Lyons, it comprises of 2 books whose titles are actually the names of the horses: Java Jive and Smoke Rings. More info on this series hereUnfortunately most of the books are rare and hard to find. The only one that is easy to get hold of is Somebody's Pony which was reprinted in paperback by Scholastic as Lost Pony. This edition is easy to find, especially if you are in the USA (which I guess you are considering both series are by American authors).
