Hi all, anyone know anything about mobiles? Nobody I know seems to have a clue! A while back mine stopped sending or recieving texts, then the battery started going down really quickly. Its pretty hopeless at the mo, have to keep charging it all the time and runs out if I make a phone call longer than 5 mins. Trouble is its got a camera, video and mp3 player on which I used to use a lot and buying a new phone with all that paraphenalia is quite expensive. I have a feeling it may just need a new battery but would a dying battery also cause the texts to stop working or is that another prob entirely. If anyone knows or if anyone has had a similar prob with their phone please let me know. I dont know whether to got new battery or new phone

Here is my thoughts......
It sounds like you have a dying battery. Mine is also on it's last legs, mine only lasts for a day. The good news is that batteries are cheap, I just bought one on ebay yesterday. Cost me £3 including postage.
As for the text thing, there are several issues that affect it's ability to send/recieve texts.
a) Not having enough credit (if you are on PAYG). I presume you have enough credit. If your credit is 0p or below 10p then some operators wont allow you to do anything bar make emergency calls.
b) Signal issues. If you live in a dodgy area (like me: mine will only work in the kitchen) then the signal will effect texts/calls. When I have bad weather it says "number not in use", even though I have plenty of credit.
c) A block made by the network company (eg Three). On a previous number I had, they placed a block on mine so I couldnt receive calls. I cant remember why (this was over 4 years ago), but once I phoned them, it solved the problem, and I received 101 texts at once.
So really I would get a new battery, and if this doesnt solve it, then I would phone the mobile company and ask if there are any blocks in place. Alternatively, if you have mobile phone repair cover/warranty then I would use that to see if they would fix it.

Thanks for that info garej I'm not that up on mobiles. I will try new battery and if the texts still dont work will try ringin O2 I know its not a signal issue as they worked fine then all of a sudden stopped so I think it may be something to do with phone itself. Anyway a battery is a bit cheaper than buying new phone!

Got a new battery for £3.49 on ebay and it has given my fone a new lease of life. Also found the manual and actual read it so I think I know why the texts werent working didnt realise I had abouut 200 sent txts in a file cloggin up the memory and have deleted them all seems to be working but it sent one before I deleted them all so may have been a mixture of lack of memory and lack of battery. Thanks for your advice garej Im so happy Ive saved at least £40 by not buying a new mobile. (Thank heavens I was outbid on the couple I tried bidding on)
