Hi all we were talking about this on another thread and thought I'd set up a separate topic as I am curious as to how many pony books we all have. Cally said she had about 300 which I thought was a fair number. I didn't have a clue how many I had. Did a quick count and found the best part of 400 on the first bookcase alone so I reckon I must have at least 1000! Quite shocked as didnt think I had that many at all.
Also how long has everyone been collecting for? Just in the last couple of years? Since childhood? I have a lot of books from my childhood collection but I didnt really start collecting the books til about 10 years ago. I reckon then I must add about 50 books or more a year to the collection. No wonder I'm always broke lol.

I wish you hadn't asked that Claire lol I didn't think I had that many but just counted and I've got 218. And I've had a clear out recently! That total doesn't include all the different versions of Follyfoot books stashed away in a box under the bed I've been collecting ever since I joined this forum in 2009. As a child I read quite a few but didn't collect them as such, I got them out of the library mostly..

I'll have to take a quick inventory while I cook the Thanksgiving turkey on Thursday! I have a lot cataloged, but then I have a lot in the staggering tbr piles which isn't cataloged...I don't bother until I've decided to keep a book, and even then I don't if it hasn't any particular value (i.e. it's ex-library or a cheap paperback or whatever).
I started collecting...um....probably a dozen years ago. Of course, I bought books before then, and had some left from childhood, but I hadn't really started going after the hardcovers, in dj, first editions, etc. Compounding the space/money issue for me is that pony books aren't the only books I collect. Sigh.......

haha i've never counted and it would scare me i think! I started to catalogue mine a few years ago but got bored and lost track of what i'd done and hadn't. I have way too many duplicates so my total is probably double the amount of actual titles if that makes sense. Really should part with some but i'm silly and can't hence having so many different editions of my favourites in the first place.
Found a load of my old books in the bin at my mums one day...don't ask why i was looking! Rescued them and found out she'd chucking them away for a while when she had room in her recycling bin. I was not impressed it has to be said...so i started re-reading a few.
I started collecting seriously again about 10 years ago maybe? Found a copy of 3 ponies and shannon on ebay (which i always wanted as a child but never found), discovered so many other Pullein-Thompson titles i hadn't read, followed by a whole host of other authors others books and then a lot of new authors too! lol

Like Haffy said a lot of mine are doubles too - I've def got way over 1000 but not all of them are pony books, got a lot of dog ones as well lol!! Nearly all of mine are collected from the past, I can't afford to buy books nowadays sadly. Have been addicted to pony books since I was little.

I think it's about 212 books that is what my home liberty app said eny way. I'm not shore if I'd say I'm a collector I love my pony books but I have no problem thinning them out when I wont more room and I don't have eny dubbles like most off you seem to. I think there are 94 pony story's.

Does anyone other than susan and trixie catalogue their books? I'm too lazy and unorganized to catalogue my collection. I actually have very few doubles as I am not really a completist who has to have every edition of a particular book, as long as I have a copy of the story that suits me. I am slowly trying to replace my paperbacks with hardbacks but I don't have much of a problem getting rid of the paperback once I have the hardback - one or two exceptions for the sentimental reasons however.
Unlike kunuma I'd say about half of mine have appeared in the last 10 years. I can even remember the books that started it off: Race Horse Holiday by JPT and A Pony Found by DPT. I'd never read them as I'd stopped reading pony books in the mid 80s when I got 'too old' for them (haha) in fact didn't know they existed. When I bought them I thought I was the only adult still reading kids books - soon found out that was far from true lol.
I have quite a few dog and cat stories too and some other children's books but nowhere near as many as the horse and pony ones.

I think I have about 200. Not catalogued, but arranged by author. I began collecting when I was at high school, but that collection was lost in a fire and I have been replacing favourites as well as buying new ones. After school, my bus stop was outside a bookshop and I used to go in and read while I was waiting for the bus. The owner told my mother he was fine with that because I always bought them when I had the money! But I love to dig out an old favourite and reread it.

What a shame you lost your original collection vera. Its usually mothers chucking them out when people lose the books - at least that didn't happen to me as my mother chucks NOTHING out!
Yes I have mine in alphabetical order too which is the nearest I'll ever get to cataloguing!

Mine are in sort of Author order, but I do have a shelf for farming stories and another for teaching/instructional pony stories. And I don't keep paperbacks with the Hard backs. I'm sounding very sad now lol

And I don't keep paperbacks with the Hard backs. I'm sounding very sad now lol Well I must be too as I decided to split up the paperbacks and hardbacks onto different bookshelves too. What was sad was the time I spent deciding whether to do this or leave them in complete author order!

I just shove them wherever they fit and then in a flurry of fastidiousness, I'll try and rearrange them so I can put all my horse models and knick knack on the shelves: everything has to out of naughty animal reach, so my mega horse mag collection goes at the bottom with all the big books and I try to keep the heavier (weight-wise) books at the bottom for safety. I've got 2 6 ft+ book cases in the bedroom and they are rather precarious!

I havent catalogued all the books but mine are in boxes under the bed! The books are arranged by author though the PTs and Joanna Cannan take 3 boxes by themselves!

I think I have between 200 and 300, some are on a bookcase, some are in a couple of boxes like Garej's. Most of them are from childhood, but a lot of the Patricia Leitch titles I did buy over the last few years. I also have quite a few horsey e-books since getting the kindle. I don't catalogue them either and can't see myself ever starting. I'll leave that to the more organised amongst you.

Don't be too impressed with my catalog....I went to quite a bit of trouble designing the database, and did catalog everything I had, before I lost steam oh, easily a year ago. Or two. And I've bought a lot of books since then

I don't know, probably something under 100. I'm reading Phantom Horse now, like pony books, but my main collecting interest is currently school stories. Never had any of these as a child, except some Enid Blyton which I dislike and purged all but one in the 90s.

I finally remembered to check my database....582 equestrian books cataloged. I'd guess that I've got another 150 (well, maybe more ) not yet cataloged. 200 ebooks...ha! I laugh at your puny virtual tbr pile....I passed 400 mystery ebooks alone earlier this week. Thats not counting the other categories (equine, juvenile, fiction, non-fiction, fantasy/sci-fi), though in my defense, mystery is my largest ebook category by far...I love them, and my physical copies got squeezed out by my pony book collection long ago.

Lol Susan, actually I do have over 200 ebooks. Thats just those on the kindle database, I think theres at least another 150 that I downloaded which are in other formats waiting to be converted to mobi. I'm doing the same as you, trying to replace some of the physical books with ebooks so I can fit in more pony books!
