Hi all, don't know if any of you ebay users received that email from ebay saying they were being really nice and cutting our listing fees. When I clicked on the link to find out more I realised this was nothing but a cover up to disguise yet another price increase! OK yes they are dropping listing fees by a few pence but they are actually increasing the final value fees! This means once again they will be creaming even more off our profits. I have no doubt that the paltry decrease in listing fees will not cover the extra we have to pay. You can read the price changes here: web.ebay.co.uk/businesshub/index.php?page=price_changes_uk_general&ov=004FTWhat a sneaky way of doing this. They really are hypocrites! ****Rant over!****

OK all you ebay sellers, I'd love to know the answer to this one, just to satisfy my curiousity When someone puts an item on their watching list, does the seller know who, and what they are watching? Just intrigued, as I have a horrible habit of using my watch list as a wish list, when it comes to the crunch I have to pick the one I can afford! So i suppose I am really "window watching" ;D Just to add, I am presently watching with great interest three tiny little plastic cats, each smaller than a fingernail, head up towards £30! Definitely only "window watching" this one!!

When someone puts an item on their watching list, does the seller know who, and what they are watching? I havent sold for a while, so it may have changed, but in answer to your question: yes and no. On the selling part of the "my ebay" section, there is a section which says "number of watchers" (followed by a number). So if there are 3 watchers, then the seller can tell that 3 people are watching, but not your ID. Like I said, I havent sold for ages, so if has changed, then I could be wrong. Also, I read this on Ceefax this morning:- news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7228460.stmWhat do people think? Personally I think it is totally the wrong way to go. Like I said, I havent sold for ages, but once I had a NPB. How the hell are you supposed to warn people they are a NPB, if you cant leave feedback? Also similarly if the buyer is rude/timewaster, how is the seller supposed to make a comment about this? I do think that ebay should do something about "retaliatory" feedback, but this is the wrong way to go about it.

I agree garej...I was a bit miffed when i got my first neutral feedback but no longer care...my bad/neutral is all "retaliatory" (and gained as a buyer who is unhappy with a purchase/seller and has commented as such).
I have had loads of NPB's for some reason or other and think you should be able to warn others or at least look and see if a bidder is likely to pay up!
You are spot on about the watchers too......hands up who else has 'hundreds' of watched things and dosen't intend to bid on very many of them at all!

I just left two lots of feedback and in each case it was different style of scoring! One gave stars to fill in and the other a list of words - very odd. I am always soooooooo nice to people Even left glowing feedback for someone who sent the wrong item and I had to pay to send it back! BUT I have been very lucky in all but a couple of cases - I do look at the seller's feedback though and funnily enough also their spelling!!!!!!

I got seahorses book once and she got mine from a seller on ebay It was probably me ;D i must admit I have done that before! Just read the article and I think it is an absolute disgrace. Sorry all you buyers, but ebay and paypal are already set up for the buyers not sellers. I'm sure the only reason a lot of people don't leave negative comments for stupid things is cos they are afraid the seller will leave a negative comment too. if that is taken out of the equation then us sellers will be getting loads of negative comments for trivial things. Also as someone has already said how can we warn others of dodgy people who don't pay. It will just be a completely one sided thing if they do it this way. (And I buy a lot too so Im not just on the side of the seller!) All my neg feedback has been from morons, for example someone who asks for surface mail then leaves neg feedback cos the item takes 8 weeks to arrive. i have hardly ever left neg myself but its nice to know its there just in case. In my opinion instead of making it completely one sided, ebay should do away with feedback altogether. Instead there should just be postive points when a transaction is successful and negative when someone doesnt pay or doesnt send the item, etc. After all society has managed to buy and sell things for years without the process.

seahorse I did the same as you and ended up talking to a real nice person too!
I don't mind people making mistakes to err is human and all that. But people who bid on something and have no intention of buying it...I just don't understand them. Have they got nothing else better to do? Those nutters will run riot if they never get neg feedback!

I admit to being a NPB once . The day i won the item my youngest daughter ended up in hospital with pnumonia, she was in there for 3 weeks and i totaly forgot about ebay (lucky it was the only thing i had bid on) and i did not get a chance to check my emails for weeks after. I explained and apoligised.....hope they understood .

I'm sure they understood. I would never give neg feedback for something like that myself.
There just seems to be some people whose hobby it is bidding for stuff they don't even want. It is really bad with mobile phones as I've sold a few on ebay and about half the people who bid on them are timewasters. Ebay doesnt even check that these people are legit. i have sold things to people and not been paid and when I investigate find they have fake addresses and everything.
You might have guessed by now i don't like ebay very much! ;D

Claire an explanation I got for not paying or contacting was iIwasn't in the 21 centuary because I. didn't accept paypal.. I said it was a pity he didn't learn to read.!lol.. It was the only neg i've given.. Have you looked on the discussion boards on ebay about this everyone..? They are asking for views on it..

Havent been on the discussion boards for a while but will have a look. The thing is what can you do? ebay is such a monopoly and monopolies just do what they like. I dont know if anyone remembers a while back when there was a big fuss when ebay stopped putting ebay shop items on the searches and put all the fees up. Lots of small ebay shops went out of business. Loads of us signed a petition, there was strikes, media coverage, I joined a protest group. But in the end nothing came of it. Basically they know they have sellers where they want them as there is little alternative. The other auction sites aren't much good.
Talking of paypal exmoorfan I'm sure I've read something saying that ebay is going to force sellers to offer paypal as a payment option. I'll have another look and see if I'm right.

yeah think it could be phones. i think they are going to add more categories where you have to offer paypal but as yet it doesnt say which.

Just thought I'd add a link to this interesting discussion on ebay's fee increase in case anyone interested: www.webpronews.com/topnews/2008/02/20/ebay-boycott-having-minimal-effectIt does seem to be the case that ebay are trying to get rid of the smaller businesses, and target the big ones. Methinks they are trying to move away from being the primark of the internet world to becoming the marks and sparks of the internet instead!

Claire ,Thanks , very interesting.. I haven't read all the posts but it does seem everyone agrees that Ebay only want big sellers..And they won't won't worry about feedback.. So we all need to find or start our own Ebay.!!!!!!!!

I have just had another look on ebid and its still crap to be blunt! Nothing worth looking at.....haven't tried selling on there as hardly anyone has heard of it. Special offer to sellers at min....pay £59 (i think, forgotten already) and no other listing fees ever!!!!!!

What a shame thought it may have improved. I suppose Amazon marketplace or whatever its called is the only real alternative/rival to ebay. I think if ebid marketed itself better it could potentially be a rival but as you say not many people have heard of it.
