Inspired by the moaning about the lack of horsey shows on tv and how everything is just reality shows . . . it became obvious that the solution is a horsey reality show So if you were given the job of creating such a show, what would the main premise be? What sort of challenges would there be? And most importantly, what would you call it? (I realize that there's Full Metal Jousting, but that's not quite what I had in mind . . . )

Nooooo!!! I loathe reality shows and wouldn't even watch a horse one. Like all reality TV it would be either full of Z list celebs flashing their fake boobs or moronic wannabe celebs going on about sex all the time. And, to make things even worse, it would no doubt be presented by Clare Balding! ;D As for the title for a non-celeb show it would have to be Chavs on Horseback! Mind you I wouldn't mind seeing some airhead celebs getting kicked, bitten or bucked off.

lol Claire my thoughts exactly. There was a sort of reality show last year when Jennifer Saunders trained to ride at badminton. That wasn't too bad.

Well, they already have Extreme Mustang Makeover and now Extreme Thoroughbred Challenge (for retraining off-the-track thoroughbreds for other riding disciplines). And there's been Horsepower: Road to the Maclay and Jockeys.
So I kinda think there already are horse reality shows. But if I were to do one, I'd like to follow event riders preparing for a major (to them) event -- such as new eventers preparing for their first one-star or something like that.
PS: But if you are restricting the question to shows like Strictly Come Dancing/Dancing with the Stars, where barely-stars learn some new skill -- I guess show jumping in some easy 1 m division or similar. Lotsa fun but hopefully no serious injuries.

Thats more of a documentary tho isn't it (I suppose it depends what you class as reality TV) I'd be interested in watching something like that, any behind the scenes type of thing. There was a good documentary about racing out a while back, film length it was in some cinemas, must try and remember what it was called, it was pretty good. There was also a TV show here (forgot its name tho) in which various people had to train to do things they have never tried before in a pretty short time span and I think they had to fool the experts that they weren't beginnners. That was actually quite good, nothing like the usual reality TV dross. I remember a bloke learning to play polo, seem to remember him being a working class type who had to mingle with all these hooray henrys. It was quite enjoyable. If anyone knows the name of the show please let me know! Crikey this post makes me seem like someone with complete memory loss!

What if it was a bunch of little girls on a 'Who Wants to Win a Pony' show? Then you could have challenges like mucking out the stables As for the title for a non-celeb show it would have to be Chavs on Horseback!

Anyone remember that show "Only Fools on Horses" I think it was called? Various celebrities were tasked with learning to ride and jump as part of Sport Relief a few years ago. The greatest bit was seeing Ruby Wax come a cropper....

Oh please let them do a mounted version of "Bad Lads Army"... I would be glued to the set
"It is 0-Dark-Hundred, time to clean the horses' beds, Satan has kicked over his bucket and the Rough Rider Corporal is imperfectly pleased..."

It was actually a good idea for telly; I remember one where a girl who'd never ridden before got an intensive course in showjumping and did well, and a straight bloke who'd never been on stage had a go at being a drag queen.

There was an English one down here just about an attractive couple running a professional show jumping stable (I think). We never got to 'Fools on Horses' but I would have liked to. A more documentary style series that showed all the different ways horses are 'used' by humans would be interesting- from the RDA to horse racing to, unfortunately, the pet food trade. Martin Clune's series was rubbish and I DESPISE human 'equine assisted' therapy where they do stuff like give some idiot a bridle and tell them to go put it on the horse with no instruction. That is just cruelty to horses.

ACTUALLY, the work of a horse charity would be a GREAT reality show.
