I'm quite happy for Riding with the Lyntons; Janet Must Ride, I haven't got, and I remember not liking it too much, but I am willing to give it a go , if someone could lend me a copy. I don't think it's a classic DPT like I wanted a Pony or Three Ponies & Shannon.

There is a bit in Riding with the Lyntons that I cannot bear - but if we choose that I will reread it - which I haven't done for years, and miss that bit out! I'd have to put in my vote for any in the Augusta and Christine series, although come to think of it there is a bit in A Pony to School I don't want to read either - hmmm, seems to happen a lot in the PT books, never thought about it like that before.

Think I can guess which bits Kumane; who said that Christine is all doom and gloom?!

Yeah I know which bits you mean too. I think Diana had a bit of C's gloom but not quite as much. She doesnt quite go overboard with it - except in The Secret Dog that is.
Having quite a few suggestions for this next book may even have to do a poll on which one to choose!

Hi all, any suggestions for the next reading circle book? Hopefully we will be able to choose it a bit easier than last time!

How about a Jill, Pat leitch or Judith Berrisford one for a change but sticking with the well loved ones we remember from being kids.

As usual I am easy. Have most so just need an excuse to re read a childhood fave even though i'm not much use at the being critical about them...It usually starts me reading the whole series then...lol So one thats a starter of a series would get my my vote..

I don't vote for the Jackie series as I read the whole bloomin lot a while back when I was trying to work out order. Otherwise anything by JMB, Pat Leitch or maybe Jills Gymkhana would be OK by me.

Oh don't say that Kunuma! Older versions are almost impossible to track down here and cost an arm and a leg to buy from OS. My aim in horsey book collecting would be to own the complete Jill series of 1st editions but the best I've managed so far is about a 3rd printing of J's pony trek! I'm actually reading the odd Jill book at the moment (on the perfect pony today) so I'll hold off til the next book's decided. If anyone ever comes across any old editions cheap let me know and I'll buy them off you or do a swopsie if the price is reasonable. When I finally do visit the UK I'm going to buy an old suitcase and fill it with books to bring home- books are taxed here so even new ones are cheaper in England compared to here.

I think Jill book, great as they are, would be a little confusing as (depending on the edition) they have been revised/updated/edited and there are things which people would be missing, changed etc. We all dont have the same edition sadly.
Mine are paperbacks dating from the early 1990s and as they are childhood, I wont be changing them.
I dont have any Patricia Leitch books however. Jackie books are a place to start, but if Claire is sick of them then perhaps it is not a great idea.
One that sprung to mind is the Georgie series by Mary Gervaise or Caroline Akrill's Eventer's Trilogy (I found another copy of Eventer's Dream this week which I am happy to pass on if anyone doesnt have one). Gillian Baxter's book are fairly easy to find (with one exception) , especially the Magic and Moonlight series, but the fact it is aimed at a younger age range may put off some people.

I love the Eventer's trilogy - but I expect everyone does -should we have one that everyone likes - or something like the Georgie books where I have a feeling there will be differing opinions.

If we do Gillian Baxter what about Jump to the Stars? Or if Patricia Leitch maybe A Horse for the Holidays or Junp to the Top. All old childhood favourites of most of us I would guess

I love Jump To The Top! Better do the later version though as the original spitfire is about half the length

I have sold my hardback Jills and have the Armada's so doubt they would be complete.. I can't remember Mary gervaise ones until I start to read them so. Not having much reading time at the mo with a new pup. (sleepless nights etc) Willing to do any of the Authors as dying to see if I remember them..

I like Mary Gervaise's Georgie series, they arent spectacular, but a lot better than some other books I have read.
I havent read her Belinda series, though.

Hi all, is it to be Jump to the Top then? If no objections will assume we are agreed! Next time I think it will be easier if I choose the author then we can all fight out which book of theirs to do.

Is Jump for the Top the same as Jumping lessons?
|
|
|
Post by Claire on Jun 11, 2008 19:11:43 GMT 1
Nope, Jumping lessons is the USA title for one of the Kestrels series, A Pony to Jump. Jump to the Top is also called Jacky Jumps to the Top. Its the story where Jacky buys Flicka when the riding schools close down but finds out she cant handle her.

Kunuma...think I have a spare...I will have a look.
Having read it recently (well all 3 versions but I'm sad like that)...the collins and pb's are heavily added to from the little spitfire original edition however the abridgements between those two later editions is really only monetry values and I am assuming these are the eds most people will have?

Well if no-one has any objections will make it our next book. Kunuma I'm sure you will enjoy it, real old-fashioned traditional pony book still can't believe how you missed reading this in your childhood!
BTW has anyone got the collins hb edition as I have never read that particular one. (Or have a pic of it for that matter?)
