Just discovered this thread and it has given a lot of giggles. Surely Mr Benn was gay? He literally comes out of the closet in every episode.. in ever more flamboyant outfits. Can't believe no one went for Henry Thornton who would have been my teenaged choice or with mature eyes David Peterborough - rich, titled, kind, generous, nice house and fabulous horses. He might have been plug ugly of course but he would have to be very ugly for the rest not to count for something. Of course these days I would be fighting Claire for Major Holbrooke (maybe Mrs H could have an unfortunate accident in the aviary?

Thank you Ginslinger for bumping this up to the top. My annoying friend will celebrate his third wedding anniversary in September. I never thought he could be an example at anything, but he is an example at being married. He is a 500% better person and they are both very happy. So happy romances are not just in books :-)

ROFL Yep it's obvious when yuo think about it - in fact come to think of it didn't he wear all the outfits from The Village People...? Yes thanks for bump have enjoyed reading these again. Well done to your friend Tintin. At the ripe old age of 40 - cough cough - something, I have so far managed to avoid marriage.

Bumping this up since it is approaching that time of year again and having read/reread the Peyton Maybridge series I need to join the queue for Peter McNair and a lesser extent Jonathan...lovely but that mother? And the Iris baggage...... Is it me or does Peyton do male characters really well. I think Jonathan is wonderfully done and I do have a soft spot for Pennington.

Yeah I think KMP does really good male characters. I must re-read the Pennington & Ruth series - since last reading it I fell for a totally unsuitable bloke like Pennington was for Ruth. I understand more where she is coming from now.

Oh wow I have had such a good laugh reading threw all this. I think I had a crush on lots of the boys in pony books, I all ways found myself drawn to Harry Franklin in pony club challenge,

I haven’t read that yet. But I am intrigued so I will. I must admit that at the age I first read pony stories I was still far more interested in the ponies than the boys. Ruth was Traitor to the cause! But I did have a few crushes if they were good riders and nice to their horses.
couple I definitely wouldn’t want as Valentines are Christopher from West Barset - the ego! And Laurence from the Chill Valley series who always seems a bit of a misery.

Yes for a lot off the time I was the same, the boys were ok if ok riders and kind to there pony, but the rest where wast off space.
