I am feeling pretty depressed at the moment as I thing I have now contacted every cat rescue centre, sanctuary, you name it - in the locality! I thought cat folk would be as obsessive as dog people, but have to admit I would have more luck rehoming a dog I think! Although I do admit that I have never tried to rehome a feral dog! If anyone knows of a sanctuary who would care for an elderly semi feral cat if I paid for her food etc, please let me know. Obviously it would have to be a safe enclosed outdoor space. One I found did offer to take her, but they now have money problems so they won't want any more cats, and just when I thought I had found somewhere too! I guess there are just too many cats around for anyone to be looking to adopt one with problems! I am going to put the stray into kennels and try and rehome her myself, but the wild one is a different ball game!! She needs knowledgeable cat folk!

Kunuma, Have you tried the cats protection league.? When we were moving from the farm and had lots of feral cats..(not by choice) they were brilliant and came to catch them for us.. I think they are all over the country.

Yes, tried them first, think I have tried every branch of them now! They have offered to lend me a trap to catch her, but don't want to take her on, I think because she is elderly.

Are there any independant animal-centred charity shops around your way (not pdsa/rspca). We have a couple here, one of which is called Animal Crackers and the charity shop sells stuff to support a rehoming centre. The other one is similar. They have a network of animal loving people and can usually find a home for stray cats.
The only other suggestion I can think of is to try advertising her to a good expert home but with her being feral it may be hard.

Unfortunately we (at the Cats Protection) get lots of calls regarding feral cats - a lot of landowners want the cats gone period. Unfortunately the best most charities can do is trap them and neuter them which slows down the growth rate but does not do what the person wants!
The thing is (and this goes for most charities dealing with cats) not many people want feral cats, or have the space for them, and very fewer still come to rescue charities for them.
So it is not surprising that you have had that response, unfortunately there is not much they can do.
The only suggestion I can think of is asking friends/relatives who live in an small holding or a farm if they will take her on.

It is so sad, because she has been VERY welcome here. When I first lived here there were rats everywhere, if you left the car door open they jumped in! Now I love all rodents, and rats impress me with their intelligence and powers of reasoning, BUT this lot were taking over. I knew the feral was around, and so started feeding her in the barn, within a week, there was not a rat on the place, and I haven't even seen one since! She has really earned the right to a home, poor girl. Have discovered that the other cat, the stray one, loves women, but won't approach men, and is absolutely terrified of any children, I wish I knew her history.

Cat people are slightly odd at times!! On telling people that before I decide on a home for my little stray I will be home checkng them, and visiting afterwards too, they seem horrified!! It is exactly what I would expect to do if she was a dog - and I don't see why she shouldn't get the same standard of care! I have a feeling she is going to be with me for a looooong while at this rate!!

I have only just become a cat person and am proud of this. If I ever had to rehome any would be full police check as well lol

Weve got plenty of land here and have the room for them. My mum would have more but dad says NO!!!! 4 Litter trays around the house and, actually, you dont really see all at once unless its dinner time!

Cannot begin to imagine 28 cats rushing for their dinner, it was practically a stampede when I had only 3! Funnily enough I was saying on another thread that my ambition for old age was to become a mad old cat woman with about 40 cats. ;D
