Just watched this film again; loved it although not enough horse content for me. I was puzzled because in the credits there was reference to a horse puppeteer. I cannot imagine any one these days asking a horse to dive into a tank of water from a 40 foot diving platform. Also there was no credit for an actual horse, although there was for wranglers and trainers. I had a quick search of the Internet but could not find anything. The film was made in 1991. Does anybody know anything about how the diving sceness were made?

I haven't seen this film at all and I know nothing about horse diving either which seems to me a bizarre sport. Yes I'd also be interested to know how the film was made.

horse diving was never a "sport" it was essentially a sideshow attraction.....the Steel Pier in Atlantic City was basically what Coney Island was to New York City.....amusement park and entertainment - high (Frank Sinatra) and low (see the man swallow fire!) along with assorted stunt bits, like the horse diving or motorcycles on a high wire. Here's a bit of history on the Steel Pier: www.steelpier.com/history-steel-pier.aspxI've got the book the movie was based on (A Girl and Five Brave Horses by Sonora Carter) lurking in the staggering tbr pile.....one of these days.........

The first I knew about it was when noticing a book called Diving Horse by Patsey Gray.
