Hi all, Off for a few days in the Lake District tomorrow. No internet access in the place we are staying (tho will no doubt be visiting the odd pub for the free wireless with my net book!) so I won't be around much. Hope you all play nice while I am away ;D Feel free anyone to put up a quiz as I obviously won't be able to do one. My dad is house and cat sitting, hopefully Rosie will not be too miffed as she doesn't like my dad ever since he accidentally dropped a cupboard door on her.

Well I'm back. Hope you all missed me haha! Suffering from post holiday blues so going out for a walk in a mo to remind myself that, even tho its not the Lake District, I'm lucky to live in such a nice place. I do have some pics of the hols which I'll put on here if anyone is interested, altho they are not very good due to being taken on my crappy phone camera. I haven't got round to getting a new digi camera yet.

Pics of my hols if anyone interested. Afraid quality is poor as were taken on my cheapy camera phone. (must get a new camera for next hols!) This is Rydal Mount, house Wordsworth lived in. Absolutely beautiful house and gardens, view from the rooms is amazing. No wonder he had plenty of inspiration! Rydal Water: Wray Castle. A 19th century castle made to look like a medieval one, Beatrix Potter stayed there at one time. Amazingly this was sold a few years ago for just £4000!!! Windermere and mountains behind including Loughrigg which I climbed last year (not as energetic this year!) Bowness on Windermere and the lake seen from opposite shore Muncaster Castle, a really old medieval castle. Not sure why this pic went funny! Amazing view from terraces of Muncaster Castle which camera does not do justice. The 3 mountains from the left are Scafell (highest in England), Bowfell and Crinkle Crags. cant remember what the others are. Stockghyll Force waterfall Lake Windermere Hawkshead, a very pretty little village full of whitewashed houses and flowers, not really typical of the Lake District. Fab old street name! This island in lake Windermere was used as Wild Cat island in the film version of Swallows and Amazons. Sadly didnt get to Coniston for a pic of the real one! The lake and mountains beyond Lovely old 16th century farmhouse called Townend. Sheltered here from the only real rain we had all week and it was fascinating, full of old carved oak furniture and oak beams. Only saw 2 horses the whole time I was there so of course took a pic of them. Sadly these pair weren't very friendly.

Lovely scenery. I'd like to visit there sometime. I'm also shocked that the castle sold for only £4000!

Like the pic of Claire wandering lonely as a cloud amid a host of golden - ---erm --- red flowers ;D Well daffodils are in short supply in september ;D As for lonely, even tho it wasn't the height of the tourist season Hawkshead is very busy as it is one of the 'Beatrix Potter' locations. The gallery of her work is there and its not far to her house. Would like to see the Cumbrian Heavy Horses some time but this was a walking holiday and we didnt have a car so couldn't get there. We got to all the places we visited by foot or boat! Except for Muncaster Castle which we took a bus trip too as it was somewhere I wanted to go for ages and we had free entry cards this year. I would really recommend that place if anyone is in the area. As well as the castle and beautiful gardens/scenery it is also home to an owl sanctuary/breeding programme and there are hundreds of owls to see also.
