I've seen the film Kunuma and it's not a horse at all, it is a Loch Ness monster type of creature/a pleciosaurus-like animal. Its a really good film but I can't remember why it was called The Water Horse.

I've not seen this film in ages, but yes, nothing to do with horses at all (save for the name).
However, for a film about an actual kelpie, you want to see INTO THE WEST.
Great movie.

I haven't seen Into the West for ages cos my dvd of it went funny half way thru. I'd like to watch it again. I like the fact that the gypsies/travellers are not just there to nick other people's horses as per many a pony book In fact their horse is taken from them. Kunuma - the horse in that film is more to my idea of what a kelpie is like than those in the Scorpio Races. Daren - did you hear that the director is planning to re-make the film set in the USA? Why!? I dont see how it would work in a US setting anyhow as much of the atmosphere of the film comes from the Irish setting. Maybe he's down on his luck and needs to re-fill his coffers. The Water Horse is also worth watching even if it has no horses in it. I like films about 'monsters' that aren't just there to terrorise the populace and get shot!

A remake of Into the West?? Hmm. I don't quite see how it would work in the States, either. Mind you, if it's a big-budget horsey movie, we can't complain, right? The Water Horse isn't bad at all. Plus it has a nice shot of a Hurricane in it - which was NOT CGI for a change!!

Hmm, two films there to try and get hold of then - like the idea of a Loch Ness monster - I've been there and paddled in Loch Ness, draw your own conclusions!!

The nessy monster in Water Horse is sooo cute when its a baby. I wanted one when I saw the film! Theres also a cute baby plessy wotsit type creature in the sci fi TV series Surface. Anyone seen that? I spent most of the series terrified the poor thing would get the chop.
Funny how there's been no sightings of Nessie since kunuma stuck her feet in Loch Ness.... ;D
