Fantastic tintin! Well done on getting back into the saddle again. I remember being very nervous last year when I went riding for the first time in a number of years - thought I would fall off and when I find it all came back to me I was on a high too - so I know how you are feeling now!

I have a side saddle gathering dust in the tackroom. I got quite keen on riding ss, and all our horses had it plonked on them and off we went. Really its not that scary [ apart from jumping!] and the horses didnt mind at all. The sidesaddle is a narrow fitting 'vintage' piece, and our horses now -cobs and warmbloods- are too wide across the withers and spine to wear it. So....anyone who has a narrow highwithered horse who wants a try , do let me know![near york]

I'd love to try side saddle but unfortunately don't have a horse to put the saddle on!

I had a splendid day out on Friday to see a young horse - Jez - being schooled to take a side saddle as I am writing those chapters at the moment I also got to see some fascinating saddles, books and habits not to mention a very nice lunch and a good horsey natter Imagine my delight when I came home to find they had run up this picture and sent it me Attachments:

Is n't it a small world? The lady riding Jez in the picture above was there (Jez himself is still too young) There are some marvellous pictures on the "flying foxes" site www.facebook.com/FlyingFoxesSideSaddle

And some more on the sidesaddle event I mentioned above -- I really wish I had ridden sidesaddle before, and knew of this event, because apparently in the effort to make the Guinness Book of World Records the organizers made it more than reasonable to book a horse and ride! Course, that also presumes I'd have the sheer guts to ride to hounds over those Irish ditches and banks! Not sure I would! www.horsenation.com/2013/01/31/your-turn-the-craic-heard-round-the-world/So, who is this Lady Martha Sitwell, other than one courageous rider?
